Thales currently have an opportunity for a Training Manager to work within the UK Services Central Team managing teams undertaking training analysis, design, delivery and evaluation to customer requirements within defence and commercial environments.

You will have a hands-on approach providing leadership and direction to the wider Technical Publications and Training team but also have the capability and confidence to design and deliver training within the market sectors of Air Defence and Surface Attack Solutions.

Location - Belfast

You will be comfortable working with challenging deadlines, managing your time and that of your team, and the team priorities across work streams. You will work within own competence, without day to day guidance or supervision in a professional manner and in accordance with the client’s relevant specifications, standards and Thales (Chorus II) and internal documentation processes.

What will you deliver?

  • You are a leader willing to engage and develop your team(s) through the use of collaborative work and challenging approaches
  • Manage and take ownership of day-to-day training activities ensuring their delivery on time, to budget and quality.
  • Management and co-ordination of multiple training programmes which can be concurrent and potentially spanning across Export and Domestic geographical locations and customer bases.
  • Deliver customer training within the market sectors of Air Defence and Surface Attack Solutions on customer site, training areas.
  • Take responsibility for contributing to team planning, risk management, quality and HSE.
  • Provide TNA decision outputs within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority to both internal and external customers on behalf of Thales.
  • Analysis and design training to UK MOD JSP822, S6000T and our internal Chorus 2 standards to ensure the Company training outputs remain compliant.
  • Work with customer and end user to highlight front line training issues that affect system availability and capability.
  • Analysis of trending training data to manage training design changes required to improve learning outcomes for the end users.
  • Support, share and contribute to the exercising of best practice in the Team. Through the merit of your own actions and performance, consistently demonstrate the value of Learning and Development to our customers.
  • Consistently demonstrate the value of Learning and Development to our customers.
  • Provide help and direction to less experienced team members.
  • Set targets for and manage own development with line manager.
  • Seek and share good practice and knowledge to continuously improve own practices.

Who are we looking for?

  • Engineering and practical knowledge/experience of Air Defence and Surface Attack Solutions.
  • Training Analysis, Design, Development, Delivery and Evaluation.
  • Resourcing and management of training plans and delivery schedules.
  • Stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate at all levels of the organisation.
  • Proven track record in consulting across a range of technical disciplines.
  • Organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to build credibility quickly and effectively.
  • Strong proficiency within standard Microsoft office packages/Authoring tools.
  • Excellent standard of written and spoken English.
  • Writing of bids, proposals and work package costings.

Security Clearance Requirement:

Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions.  This role requires Security Clearance (SC). It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment. 

To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years.  In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
