Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role
As Global Technical Specialist for Non-Threaded Fasteners, you will develop robust strategies to enable industry leading integration of snap rings, retainers, cup plugs, pins, V-band clamps, and other non-threaded fasteners for use in Combustion, Electric and Hybrid vehicle propulsion systems. You'll lead and maintain technical requirements for Non-Threaded Fasteners and provide technical guidance to GM Design Release Engineers (DRE), cross-functional teams and suppliers. These components as integrated into GM applications must push the boundaries for performance, efficiency, reliability, and quality while balancing cost, manufacturability, and global commercial strategy. The position requires strong technical and interpersonal skills and experience in propulsion system design and interface applications.
What You'll Do

  • Lead and coordinate benchmarking efforts at a subsystem level to support definition of best practices for non-threaded fasteners, including a high level of engagement in Competitive Benchmarking Design Reviews (CBDR).
  • Build, develop, publish, and maintain documentation including Best Practices, SOR templates, DFMEA templates, and contribute to the Validation Cross Reference Index.
  • Participate in supplier technical reviews. Assess potential suppliers and supplier facilities on technical capabilities and maintain a Technically Approved Supplier List (TASL).
  • Participate on Purchasing Creativity Teams and provide guidance to help drive supplier selection for new programs, including technical assessment of supplier designs and supplier capabilities.
  • Provide technical support to program teams, including Assistant Chief Engineers, and to Development Engineers, Validation Engineers, and Applications Engineers.
  • Maintain a high-level understanding of the Virtual Design, Development and Validation (VDDV) models and analysis methods for unthreaded fasteners.
  • Participate in the warranty reduction and quality improvement process, ensuring lessons learned are collected and documented. Support Brand Quality Managers with technical expertise and problem resolution assistance.
  • Support and drive interface application decisions as relates to use of non-threaded fasteners to optimize propulsion system and vehicle performance, drive quality and manufacturing assembly processes.
  • Define design tool needs and coordinate the development of new tools, new capabilities, and the maintenance of existing tools and databases.
  • Responsible for safety tether execution and closure in PRTS.
  • Strong support of the Safety Field Investigation (SFI) process.
  • Lead/Coach DFSS projects.


Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of engineering experience
  • Strong background and knowledge of the design of propulsion systems.
  • Experience working with suppliers on application of propulsion subsystem components.
  • Proven ability to reach across organizational boundaries to garner support and deliver results.
  • Expertise in the design of integrated, cross functional systems
  • Demonstrated leadership skills especially the use of influence.
  • DFSS Certification level of Black Belt or Master Black Belt
