Team: Portals / Platform Engineering. 6+ years of experience.

This is a dual-focus senior backend role, split roughly 50/50 between AI and core platform engineering. Half the job is AI on GCP, building MCP/agent tooling in Python, shipping LLM-backed features into our portals, and driving AI-assisted dev practices across the team. The other half is Java 21 / Spring Boot 3.4, building and maintaining our production REST APIs, plus an active legacy modernization.

We need someone genuinely strong in both, not an AI specialist who'll learn Java later, or a Java engineer hoping to pick up AI on the job.

Must-haves:

• 6+ years professional software engineering experience

• Shipped a real LLM-backed product to production users, demos and POCs don't count

• Hands-on GCP + Kubernetes (Cloud Run, IAM, Secret Manager)

• Strong production Python

• Strong production Java with Spring Boot, designs, builds, tests, reviews REST services independently

• Practical fluency with AI dev tools (Claude Code, Codex, etc.), has automated real work with them

Nice to have: MCP/tool-calling experience, RAG in production, legacy Java migration experience, HCP/adtech domain exposure.

Location & Hours:

  • Can work remotely in your current country

  • Most of our Portal Engineering team is in India and the U.S.

Selection Process:

  • Online CodeSignal assessment (75-90 minutes)

  • Intro Call (15 minutes)

  • Technical Interview with Sr. Developer (60-90 minutes, note that some candidates may need more than 60 minutes)

  • Full Screen:

    • Technical Interview with 2 Sr. Developers, 1 hour together

    • 15 minutes with VP, Portal Engineering

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
