Mō te tūranga | About the Role
As part of WNZL’s digital transformation, you will play a senior role in delivering high-quality payments experiences for our customers. Working within a cross-functional squad, you will design, build, and evolve solutions across mobile, and web front-ends, as well as the experience and capability layers of payments processing.
As a Senior Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, drive engineering best practices, and contribute to solution design and architectural decisions. You will mentor other engineers, collaborate closely with product and platform partners, and ensure the delivery of scalable, resilient, and customer-centric payments capabilities.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and integration solutions
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly, and participating in afterhours support when required
• Ensure best practices in design, coding standards, performance, and security
• Create and maintain documentation throughout the SDLC to support transparency and knowledge sharing
• Implement changes aligned with design specifications and evolving business needs
• Analyse recurring issues and lead continuous improvement initiatives
• Maintain and refine support procedures to ensure resilience and minimise downtime
• Ensure compliance with governance standards

• At least 5+ years of professional engineering experience in Backend development in Java and Springboot.
• Experience in DevOps such as CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment automation
• Proficient in unit testing, code reviews, and debugging
• Ability to break down complex problems and deliver practical solutions
• Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles
• Integrates AI effectively into engineering workflows to improve quality and efficiency, demonstrates strong judgement on appropriate use, and coaches others on responsible AI practices
