Overview:
Dyson is committed to healthy hair and scalp. Through deep science and engineering, we design products that protect hair from damage while supporting long‑term hair and scalp health—so hair looks and feels beautiful every day. Dyson’s Personal Care and Beauty Research Team in Singapore works on projects that involve biology, chemistry and electronics. The team is looking to add a Senior Hair and Scalp Scientist; in this role you will act as Dyson’s technical specialist and subject matter expert. You will be expected to work across teams to help build new, multi-disciplinary technical capabilities, as well as develop technologies that can be translated to downstream development partners within the organisation.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with other scientists and engineers to define the requirements of new or existing research projects and design new assays or experimental methods to address scientific challenges.
Provide technical perspective as a subject matter expert, giving inputs to cross-functional teams to deliver novel hair and scalp care technologies.
Critically evaluate literature for benchmarking, regulatory context, and commercial relevance.
Designs hypothesis-driven experiments and proof-of-concept validation investigations.
Troubleshoot experimental inconsistencies and guides colleagues in method improvements, data interpretation, and possible compliance constraints.
Co-create, and own project deliverables for your projects.
Present research plans and outcomes to the leadership team.
Bring a translational view of research that supports development of product concepts.
Skills and Experience:
Advanced degree or equivalent industry experience in Biology, Bioengineering, or a closely related discipline with a demonstrated track record of operating at the interface of biological systems and engineered technologies.
Experience developing technologies in an industry or commercial context.
Quantitative & Analytical Thinking: Translate biological phenomena into engineering constraints and design parameters.
Experience working in a biological wet lab: expertise with cell culture, biological assays and cell-material interaction analysis.
Proven expertise in biological assay development, and skills in troubleshooting noisy, variable biological data. Prior work with skin and hair cells would be an advantage.
Computational data analysis, image analysis, and basic programming skills
Experience with experimental instrumentation and comfortable with custom (often partially self-built) experimental setups and performing calibration, validation, and performance benchmarking.
Familiarity with basic chemistry and formulation science would be an advantage.
Good communication skills: experience in presenting complex ideas clearly through figure design, data storytelling, scientific writing, and oral presentations
An understanding of technology readiness levels (TRLs) and translation pathways
Comfortable operating at the interface of biology and engineering, with 1-3 years of working experience in complex R&D organisations
