Summary
This is a high-profile opportunity to join Group Finance and play a key role in shaping the financial outlook of M&S. As Senior Finance Manager, FP&A, you’ll lead Group-wide planning, forecasting and performance insight, bringing together a clear view of profit, cash and working capital to help senior leaders make informed strategic decisions.
Working closely with the CFO, CEO, Finance Directors and wider leadership teams, you’ll turn complex financial information into clear, actionable insight, provide constructive challenge and help shape decisions across performance, investment, capital allocation and other strategic priorities.
To stay close to customers, our support teams are in the office three days a week as we believe that skills are developed through collaboration, and that spending time together makes us more creative and connected.
What you’ll do
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Lead Group performance and insight, bringing together month-end reporting across P&L, costs and cash flow and translating performance, trends and emerging issues into clear, actionable insight for senior leadership.
- Own Group planning and forecasting, leading the forecasting, Budget and long-term planning agenda and creating an integrated view of profit, cash and working capital while challenging assumptions, risks and opportunities.
- Shape our financial outlook, connecting actual performance with the forward view and maintaining a clear perspective on financial trajectory, risks and opportunities to support senior decision-making.
- Provide strategic financial insight, leading analysis across cash flow, working capital, capital allocation and shareholder returns, alongside modelling for key Group and CFO priorities including cost-out and investment decisions.
- Lead, influence and develop, partnering across Finance and the wider business while coaching and developing the Group FP&A team and continually raising the standard of planning, reporting and insight.
Who you are
- A qualified accountant, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, with strong FP&A or commercial finance experience gained within a complex organisation.
- A commercially curious finance professional with an excellent understanding of the drivers behind P&L, cash and business performance, and the confidence to challenge assumptions constructively.
- A strong analyst and storyteller, able to take complex financial information and modelling and turn it into simple, compelling insight and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- An effective partner and influencer who can build credibility across Finance and the wider business, navigate ambiguity and confidently engage and challenge at senior levels.
- An experienced people leader, able to coach and develop others, create a collaborative and high-performing team environment and continually improve ways of working.
