  • Use reliability, availability, latency, capacity and incident data to prioritize technical debt and reduce operational risks.
  • Define and track reliability and incident metrics including availability, error budget consumption, incident volume, Mean Time to Detect (MTTD), Mean Time to Restore (MTTR) and change failure rates.
  • Enable engineering teams with tooling, observability, automation and best practices that improve service reliability, release confidence and system stability.

Operational Excellence and Incident Management

  • Lead the engineering response for critical incidents, providing technical leadership, service diagnosis, recovery coordination and decision support to accelerate restoration of services.
  • Drive blameless post-incident reviews, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), corrective actions and long-term remediation plans in partnership with engineering and service owners.

  • Partner with Operations and Service Management teams to continuously improve incident response effectiveness, escalation processes, operational readiness and service resilience.

Observability, Resilience and Peak Readiness

  • Drive a consistent observability strategy across metrics, logs, traces, dashboards and alerting, with a focus on actionable signals and early detection.
  • Lead capacity planning, performance engineering, failure-mode analysis, disaster recovery and resilience testing for critical services and customer journeys.
  • Own operational readiness for campaigns, product launches and seasonal peaks, ensuring risks, dependencies, capacity and recovery plans are understood and tested.
  • Improve deployment safety through automated quality gates, progressive delivery, rollback and recovery capabilities, and strong change governance.
  • Ensure business continuity and disaster recovery plans are documented, tested and improved based on outcomes.

Cloud and Platform Operations

  • Provide leadership for the reliability and operational governance of Google Cloud Platform services and shared DTC infrastructure.
  • Drive infrastructure automation, standardization and repeatability using Infrastructure as Code and GitOps practices.
  • Partner with Architecture, Security and Platform Engineering to improve cloud reliability, scalability, security, compliance and cost efficiency.
  • Establish guardrails for environments, access, configuration, service lifecycle management and operational controls.
  • Promote sustainable cloud usage and FinOps practices while balancing availability, performance, resilience and cost.

People and Engineering Leadership

  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing SRE organisation with clear accountability, sustainable ways of working and a strong service ownership mindset.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
