We’re looking for a highly experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic team and help drive the development of scalable, high-performance data solutions. This role is hands-on and focused on building robust data pipelines, enabling real-time data processing, and contributing to engineering excellence across the data lifecycle.
As part of the Transaction Data Product (TDP) team within Technology Engineering, you’ll be working on a cloud-based, event-driven data platform that powers critical business and customer-facing services. Our team thrives on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, and we’re passionate about delivering high-quality software and data products.
You’ll bring deep technical expertise, a strong problem-solving mindset, and a commitment to mentoring others and improving engineering practices.
Ngā Haepapa Matua | Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable data pipelines using Java/Scala, Kafka, and Python.
Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability across the data lifecycle.
Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across development, testing, and production environments.
Apply effective quality assurance practices and contribute to continuous process improvement.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data engineering efforts with business goals.
Lead and mentor engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Evaluate and integrate new tools and technologies to enhance platform capabilities.
Work closely with external partners and vendors to ensure seamless delivery of data solutions.
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
10+ years of hands-on experience in Java/Scala development.
Strong understanding of the JVM and its performance characteristics.
Proficient in Python for data engineering and automation.
Deep expertise in Kafka, with experience managing high-volume, high-velocity streaming data.
Solid experience with AWS or Azure, including cloud-native development and deployment.
Skilled in Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
Practical knowledge of Linux OS and networking fundamentals.
Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational databases.
Strong grasp of data modeling, distributed systems, and microservices.
Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices.
Proficient in Git and standard version control workflows.
Knowledge of security engineering and testing strategies.
