Key Responsibilities
Functional and Solution Leadership

• Lead the functional delivery of end-to-end Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV implementation projects.
• Take ownership of functional workstreams from initial discovery and requirements gathering through solution design, configuration, testing, training, data migration, go-live and post-implementation support.
• Lead structured discovery workshops with senior stakeholders, subject-matter experts and business users.
• Analyse complex business processes, operational requirements and existing systems to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Translate business requirements into clear, scalable Business Central solution designs.
• Challenge requirements constructively where standard Business Central functionality or an improved process would deliver a better outcome.
• Define the functional architecture for Business Central solutions, including the appropriate use of standard functionality, configuration, integrations, extensions and complementary applications.
• Produce high-quality functional specifications, solution design documents, process maps, configuration workbooks and decision logs.
• Work closely with technical architects, developers and integration specialists to ensure that functional requirements are understood and delivered correctly.
• Ensure that proposed solutions align with customer objectives, agreed scope and established implementation standards.

Project Delivery

• Lead functional planning and delivery across multiple project phases and workstreams.
• Provide clear estimates, delivery assumptions and functional dependencies to project managers and delivery leads.
• Manage customer expectations throughout the project lifecycle, identifying potential gaps between requested functionality, agreed scope and available budget.
• Support the planning and execution of system integration testing, user acceptance testing and regression testing.
• Develop test scenarios and acceptance criteria that reflect business requirements and end-to-end processes.
• Guide customers through data migration planning, including data preparation, validation, reconciliation and cutover activities.
• Lead functional readiness reviews and support go-live planning and implementation.
• Provide structured hypercare and post-go-live support, ensuring that issues are prioritised, investigated and resolved effectively.
• Maintain accurate records of requirements, decisions, actions, risks, issues and solution changes.
• Identify and escalate delivery risks early, with practical recommendations for mitigation.
• Ensure that project activity complies with internal delivery standards, customer governance requirements and applicable regulations.

Customer and Stakeholder Management

• Build trusted relationships with customer sponsors, finance leaders, operational stakeholders and project teams.
• Act as a senior functional adviser, helping customers make informed decisions about Business Central functionality, process design and future improvements.
• Communicate complex functional and technical concepts clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
• Facilitate workshops and governance discussions in a structured, confident and inclusive manner.
• Manage challenging conversations relating to scope, priorities, solution constraints and delivery risks.
• Identify opportunities to improve the customer’s use of Business Central following implementation.
• Work with account and managed services teams to identify support, optimisation and enhancement opportunities.
• Maintain a strong focus on customer outcomes while balancing scope, quality, effort and commercial considerations.

Pre-Sales and Practice Development

• Support pre-sales engagements by leading high-level discovery sessions and assessing customer requirements.
• Prepare and deliver relevant Business Central demonstrations tailored to the customer’s business processes and priorities.
• Contribute to solution proposals, statements of work, delivery estimates and implementation approaches.
• Identify solution assumptions, dependencies, risks and potential areas of complexity during the sales process.
• Support the transition from pre-sales into delivery, ensuring that commitments and customer expectations are clearly understood.
• Contribute to the development of reusable templates, delivery methods, demonstration environments and practice standards.
• Stay informed about developments across Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics NAV and the wider Microsoft business applications ecosystem.
• Share knowledge and lessons learned across the Business Central practice.
• Identify opportunities for improved delivery efficiency, solution quality and customer value.

Leadership and Mentoring

• Provide functional leadership and guidance to consultants, associate consultants and wider project team members.
• Mentor less-experienced consultants in discovery, process analysis, solution design, configuration, documentation and customer engagement.
• Review functional deliverables and provide constructive, evidence-based feedback.
• Delegate activities clearly, setting appropriate expectations for quality, ownership and timescales.
• Support colleagues when functional issues require escalation or additional expertise.
• Encourage consistent delivery standards and knowledge sharing across the team.
• Promote a collaborative, accountable and supportive working environment.
• Lead by example through professional conduct, transparency and a strong commitment to quality.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Significant experience working as a senior or lead functional consultant in customer-facing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or Dynamics NAV implementations.
• Strong finance and business process expertise developed through consulting, implementation or customer-facing delivery roles.
• Demonstrable experience leading complete implementation lifecycles, including: 
  • Discovery and requirements gathering
  • Business process analysis and process mapping
  • Fit-gap analysis

  • System configuration

• At least five years of relevant Business Central or Dynamics NAV functional consulting experience, with experience leading functional workstreams or complete implementations.

• Experience producing clear functional specifications and solution design documentation for technical delivery teams.

• Experience supporting existing Business Central implementations and identifying opportunities for optimisation or additional services.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work across several functional workstreams.
• Strong risk, issue and dependency management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Highly Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience supporting Business Central pre-sales engagements, including discovery, solution positioning, demonstrations and proposal development.
• Experience with Jet Reports or other Business Central reporting solutions.
• Experience with Continia Document Capture and Continia Expense Management.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform, including:

• Experience designing Business Central solutions for one or more of the following:
