Mō te tūranga | About the Role

As a Senior Cyber Assurance Advisor within the Cyber Service Group, you will play a critical role in helping keep Westpac New Zealand safe and secure.

Our team is focused on providing independent assurance over the effectiveness of cyber security controls across the organisation. As trusted subject matter experts, we deliver meaningful insights and measurable outcomes, using data-driven metrics to track cyber control compliance, assess performance, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

As a senior member of the team, you will act as a mentor and trusted advisor, providing coaching and guidance to colleagues while supporting the Service Owner in achieving the team’s objectives. You will contribute to the delivery of a world-class cyber security environment by driving assurance activities, influencing stakeholders, and fostering a culture of security excellence across the business.

Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in technology, with demonstrated expertise in cyber assurance, vulnerability management, and security remediation.
  • Strong technical knowledge of web security technologies, networking, and enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate the remediation of critical and zero-day security vulnerabilities, partnering effectively with vendors, service owners, and product teams.
  • Solid understanding of network architecture principles and enterprise architecture frameworks.
  • Knowledge of internet security, communication protocols, and directory services standards.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms and virtualisation technologies.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance obligations within the financial services sector.
  • Knowledge of industry security frameworks, standards, and best practices, including ISO 27001, PCI DSS, and NIST.
  • Experience using issue and workflow management tools, such as Atlassian Jira.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in high-pressure environments, managing competing priorities and urgent security risks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience developing and reporting on cyber security metrics, controls assurance, and compliance performance.
  • Ability to build effective relationships across business and technology teams and drive positive security outcomes through collaboration.
