To support this evolution, we're investing significantly in our Operational Risk Oversight team within the Second Line of Defence. We're enhancing the team's capacity, seniority, and technical expertise to strengthen our ability to provide independent challenge, influence strategic outcomes, and help deliver better experiences for our members.
This newly enhanced role offers an exciting opportunity to play a key part in the oversight of some of Nationwide's most significant strategic change and integration programmes. As a Senior Risk Oversight Manager (Change), you'll work closely with the Head of Operational Risk Oversight (Change) to provide independent risk oversight and challenge across a complex portfolio of change initiatives.
Managing change risk is a critical component of our Enterprise Risk Management Framework. Nationwide delivers large-scale change to strengthen operational resilience, launch new products and services, and meet evolving regulatory and legal requirements. As the scale and complexity of technology-enabled change continues to grow, we're investing in new oversight approaches, enhanced capability, and more sophisticated methods of assessing delivery risk.
In this role, you'll provide constructive challenge and insight across all stages of change delivery, operating through Nationwide's Change Framework and supporting oversight of portfolio management, project delivery, and technical implementation. You'll work collaboratively with programme leaders, technology teams, senior stakeholders, and colleagues across the Three Lines of Defence, while also engaging with UK regulatory bodies where appropriate.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, London or Glasgow office. ResponsibilitiesWhat you’ll be doing
No two days are the same, but a typical day is focused on providing independent oversight, developing and co-ordinating risk opinions, and challenging to ensure that change is delivered safely and in line with the Group Change Framework and regulatory expectations.
Some of your day is spent engaging with business and change teams. This might involve discussing programme delivery, reviewing governance artefacts, and challenging risk assessments. A key part of the role is providing constructive challenge while supporting teams in achieving their objectives. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation is essential. You’ll regularly engage with programme managers, programme directors, compliance specialists and senior leaders to build a clear view of risk exposure and delivery progress.
The majority of your time will involve reviewing programme updates, ensuring that key decisions, assumptions and dependencies are appropriately documented and escalated, preparing steering committee slides. You must also ensure to spend time updating planning documents and our central opinion repository.
About you
Minimum requirements:
We’ll need you to have a demonstrable track record of either leading programmes or projects and/or oversighting them with a good level of IT technical understanding within a Retail Banking/Financial Services firm
You will have experience of working as a Programme or Project Manager
You'll have the ability to demonstrate decisiveness and sound judgement on a consistent basis. With strong critical thinking, you’ll comprehend and assimilate technical information rapidly, break down complex problems and provide support and challenge to risk owners in a clear and understandable way to suit different audiences, from Exco level through to wider colleague engagement
Interpersonally, you will have experience of working on a regular basis with Senior and Director level stakeholders and you can develop high value relationships at all levels
You will have strong leadership skills and be comfortable working in a matrix environment. The role will involve direct line management and also co-ordination of oversight resource across the Second Line teams
You'll have demonstrable experience of assessing business area compliance against the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) requirements
