We are looking for a Senior BI Developer to design, develop and deliver high-quality business intelligence solutions that help colleagues and customers make better decisions. This is a senior role requiring strong Power BI expertise, advanced SQL capability and the confidence to take ownership of complex data and reporting work from requirements through to delivery.
You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to understand reporting needs, translate complex requirements into effective BI solutions and present information in a clear, intuitive and decision-focused way. The role suits someone who combines technical depth with strong judgement, delivery focus and the ability to solve problems independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build and maintain high-quality Power BI reports, dashboards and semantic models that support operational, commercial and strategic decision-making.
  • Develop robust data models, relationships and DAX measures, ensuring reporting solutions are performant, reliable, secure and scalable.
  • Use SQL to query, investigate, troubleshoot and optimise complex or imperfectly documented data environments.
  • Work with stakeholders to understand business questions, clarify requirements, challenge assumptions where appropriate and translate needs into practical BI solutions.
  • Apply strong data visualisation and storytelling principles so reports clearly highlight trends, exceptions, context and recommended areas of focus.
  • Plan and deliver BI projects or significant work packages independently, managing priorities, dependencies, testing, risks and communication throughout.
  • Take ownership of complex problems from investigation through to resolution, identifying practical options and escalating appropriately when needed.
  • Contribute to development standards, documentation, peer review, knowledge sharing and mentoring across the BI team

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
You will be an experienced BI professional with a strong track record of delivering Power BI solutions in a complex data environment. You will be comfortable working independently, making sound technical decisions and communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced Power BI development experience, including report design, data modelling, DAX, relationships, optimisation and maintaining production reporting solutions.
  • Strong SQL skills, including the ability to write, troubleshoot and optimise complex queries.
  • Experience investigating data quality, data structure and business logic issues in unfamiliar or complex environments.
  • Ability to turn complex data into clear, accessible and decision-focused insight for different audiences.
  • Proven experience planning and delivering BI, analytics or data projects to agreed timescales.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to interpret, clarify and challenge requirements.
  • Good judgement, accountability and problem-solving capability, with the confidence to progress work independently.
  • Commitment to high standards in testing, documentation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Working Style
This role requires someone who can balance technical delivery with collaboration. You will be expected to communicate progress clearly, identify risks early, support colleagues where appropriate and help shape consistent approaches to BI development across the team.

Desired behavioral skills:

The Senior BI Developer should demonstrate the following behavioural skills:
  • Ownership and accountability: Takes responsibility for work from initial investigation through to delivery and handover, without requiring repeated follow-up.
  • Clear and early communication: Provides progress updates and raises risks, blockers and potential delays before delivery is affected.
  • Proactive problem-solving: Investigates issues independently and identifies possible solutions rather than only reporting problems.
  • Appropriate escalation: Recognises when further investigation is unlikely to be productive and seeks support at the right time.
  • Curiosity and analytical thinking: Independently seeks to understand the underlying data, business process and existing logic.
  • Reliability and responsiveness: Will take ownership of agreed priorities, attend scheduled discussions and proactively arrange discussions where required.
  • Collaboration: Works positively with colleagues, participates in team discussions and contributes to shared objectives.
  • Knowledge sharing: Documents findings, explains technical decisions and avoids creating processes that only one person understands.
  • Quality and attention to detail: Tests and validates work thoroughly, performance, usability and maintainability. Understands issues should be addressed before code review, allowing the review process to focus on assurance and improvement.
  • Stakeholder focus: Understands the business outcome behind a request and constructively clarifies or challenges unclear requirements.
  • Adaptability and resilience: Remains constructive when requirements change or unexpected data issues arise.
  • Continual improvement mindset: Acknowledges gaps in knowledge, responds positively to feedback and demonstrates a willingness to learn.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
