Risk and Compliance Manager – Financial Crime/AML

Mō te tūranga | About the role

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager Risk, Compliance & QA for Institutional and Business Banking (IBB), you will support the scope and pace of change in the Financial Crime and AML risk and regulatory environment impacting on Westpac’s Institutional and Business Banking Division.

This is an influential role within IBB as the division represents multiple business units (Institutional, Corporate, Agribusiness, Business and the Chief Operating Office) with a variety of customers, products and distribution types. This role will have a specific focus on AML and Financial Crime risk and spans across financial crime risk advisory, AML escalations/approvals and financial crime related projects and initiatives. . It is hands-on and will require you to be equally adept at thinking about the big picture and the ‘doing’ (executing day to day activities). 

You will actively be a champion for risk and compliance and encourage a move towards a proactive risk culture by providing insight, advice, and pragmatic solutions. Nā tāu rourou | What will I bring?

  • Work experience of 6+ years in the financial services industry with a strong knowledge of the NZ financial services industry with 3+ years in Financial Crime or similar risk discipline.

  • Strong knowledge of Financial Crime regulatory guidelines e.g. AML/CFT Act

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. law, commerce) desired, but not essential if financial crime knowledge and experience is proven.

  • Good knowledge of financial crime risk frameworks, systems and banking lending practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to grow effective relationships with, communicate with, consult and advise across all levels of the organisation including senior management.

  • ACAMs accredited preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to influence the business to ensure compliance with financial crime risk policies and guidelines

  • General knowledge and understanding of the businesses comprising Institutional & Business Banking

  • A good understanding of the legislative framework supporting financial institutions in NZ
