Role: QA Engineering Manager

Location: London office / Hybrid (2 days per week in the office)

The role

Engineering Managers at Rightmove help engineers to innovate and make great technical decisions whilst developing their skills and experience.  They support great team-working, set technical standards and direction, and grow strong communities of technical practice.  The role sits within Engineering - part of Product Development - and is responsible for developing software applications to meet Rightmove’s users and business needs.

We would welcome applications from seniors who are looking to step into an Engineering Manager position.

During a typical week you can expect to cover a varied range of topics and tasks, no two weeks are the same, but it will usually be a blend of:

  • Working with individual QAs on coaching, development, and support.
  • Working within the community of practice to strengthen knowledge sharing and learning.
  • Working with the QA manager to drive and deliver against the QA strategy and roadmap.
  • Working with other engineering managers to continuously improve engineering.
  • Working with Product Owners to influence and help shape effective ways of working in the teams to help them deliver against objectives.
  • Involvement in wider Rightmove cultural initiatives.
  • Hiring great people for long-term success, delivering an amazing candidate experience.
  • Looking for opportunities to use your knowledge and experience to benefit different teams and areas.
  • Staying on top of trends and changes within QA practice with a view to experimenting with new ideas to further increase our effectiveness.

QA at Rightmove is more than tasks, it is a mindset. We are not about testing at the end, we are about testing throughout, preventing issues rather than detecting them and championing quality as a whole team responsibility.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a genuine passion for QA as a practice, with extensive experience in the field.
  • Champions all aspects of the craft (for example security, accessibility, privacy, resilience, etc.)
  • Is keen to use tools and technology wherever it can effectively improve QA
  • Is context driven, using their experience to define the right approach
  • Is driven by delivering value in the best way, not simply completing tasks
  • Loves to bring people on the journey, skilled at gaining support and buy-in where needed
  • Actively listens and seeks out the real concerns
  • Collaborates effectively and knows when to adapt styles to accomplish goals
  • Loves to try new ideas and is happy to learn from failure as well as success
  • Enjoys coaching and developing people with varying levels of experience
  • Is pragmatic and adept at creating options to solve problems
  • Holds high standards and encourages those around them to do the same
  • Encourages openness, trust, and honesty in all they do

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
