Job Description:

As a Principal MMIC Design Engineer you will partake in all aspects of the entire MMIC design process, from co-ordinating characterisation efforts through final mask tapeout.

  • Simulation, design and layout of state of the art GaN on SiC MMICs, typically power amplifiers, for operation as bare die or in a package
  • Prepare review documentation and lead/participate in design reviews
  • Co-ordinate characterisation of test structures, contribute to the development of test structures along with assisting and advising the compound semiconductor model team in the characterisation process to enable design with or without manufacturer process PDK
  • Characterisation and simulation backfit of engineering designs to ensure successful release to full production release
  • Close communication with product and application engineering teams to guide MMIC products through to full product release and sales and market support
  • Participate in advance compound semiconductor discussions and target recommended process improvements
  • Support junior members of the team with experience, teaching and sharing knowledge gained

Requirements/Qualifications:

A successful candidate should possess some or all the following balance of skills and qualifications

  • Bachelors, Masters or higher Degree, in an engineering discipline
  • Minimum 12 years experience in MMIC design
  • Preferable to have significant experience with GaN
  • Highly proficient in use of either Keysight ADS or Cadence AWR software
  • In depth knowledge of electromagnetic simulation tools
  • Experience and knowledge of RF test and measurement equipment
  • Understanding of stability criteria, with advanced simulation techniques, and thermal performance effects on PA design
  • Understanding of measurement based, compact and behavioural models as well as use of manufacturers PDK for MMIC design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to understand and explain technical issues to peers and nontechnical audiences
