JOB PROFILE DESCRIPTION

WHAT IS A PLACEMENT?

Eligibility: Our Placement Programme is designed for undergraduate students who are in their second year of study and will be entering their third year. This 12-month fixed-term contract begins in the summer and is part of a sandwich year Placement at Level 6. It provides invaluable real-world industry experience. Please note that we can only consider applications from candidates who meet these criteria.

Purpose: The Placement aims to offer undergraduates a full year of industry experience between their second and final years of study, running from summer to summer. This opportunity allows students to apply classroom theory in a practical setting and gain valuable hands-on experience.

Your Role as a Placement Product Consultant

As a Placement Product Consultant, you’ll be a valued member of our client-facing consulting teams across Healthcare and Public sectors. You’ll collaborate with others to understand user and business needs, contribute to business analysis activities, and help shape user stories that make a difference.

You’ll be supported every step of the way, working alongside experienced Product consultants who are passionate about mentoring and sharing knowledge. By the end of the programme, you’ll be equipped with the skills and confidence to help transform organisations—and perhaps even become one of our future leaders.

We embrace a dynamic, fast-paced environment where adaptability, curiosity, and teamwork are celebrated.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Qualities:

  • Currently studying towards, at least a Level 6 bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject.
  • Must have unconditional right to work in the UK and be eligible for UK Security Clearance (for further details, see FAQS on website)

  • Comfortable facilitating group discussions and contributing to shared outcomes
  • Organised, flexible, and able to meet deadlines with confidence
  • Able to present ideas clearly to varied audiences
  • Passionate about technology and its potential to enhance user experiences
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn about product and business analysis
  • Effective communicator with both internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Collaborative team player who values direction, feedback, and shared success
  • Willingness to explore generative technologies (e.g., Generative AI) to drive innovation

Desirable Skills:

  • Ability to make thoughtful decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with tools like JIRA or SharePoint
  • Experience with Office 365 Suite or equivalent
  • Understanding of stakeholder roles and dynamics
  • Awareness of process risks and opportunities for improvement
  • Knowledge of agile methodology and software development lifecycle

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE APPLYING:

Working Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You'll be expected to work from your contracted office at least one day per week, with flexibility and support built in.

Travel expectations: At Kainos, we work with a diverse range of clients, and some of our projects require travel. If travel were required, we will endeavour to keep this to a minimum and ensure sufficient notice is provided.

Popularity of scheme: We’re looking forward to receiving and reviewing your application. We strongly encourage you to apply early. If a high number of applications are received, this role may close earlier than the advertised deadline. In cases where a large volume of applications is received, the recruitment team will apply enhanced criteria to refine the shortlisting process.

Completing your application: Please note that the application process is two parts, completing a questionnaire and uploading your CV. It is essential that you complete the questionnaire in full, to the best of your ability. We recommend avoiding the LinkedIn quick apply function, as it may alter the format of your CV and exclude important details. Instead, please apply directly via the Kainos Careers website: Your Kainos story starts here

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
