Lead Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Frome, Somerset

What you will do

As Lead Manufacturing Engineer, you will lead and oversee the Manufacturing Engineering and Tooling Design teams, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives while driving operational excellence. Your role will focus on:

  • Managing departmental activities and delegating tasks to meet business priorities.
  • Leading problem-solving initiatives to address root causes and improve performance.
  • Supporting operational processes and participating in CCC/PCC/BCC meetings.
  • Driving continuous improvement projects to achieve EHS, Quality, Delivery, and Cost-out targets.
  • Acting as a communication bridge for change management and ensuring compliance with MOC and PFMEA updates.
  • Identifying cost-reduction opportunities and managing capital planning and project delivery.
  • Developing team capability through training, mentoring, and fostering a high-performance culture.

How you will do it

You will leverage your technical expertise and leadership skills to:

  • Implement engineering improvement projects to reduce downtime and meet OEE targets.
  • Utilize Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to optimize processes and eliminate waste.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and divisional staff to deliver strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure budgetary control and capital project execution in line with AME strategy.
  • Provide technical support to production and quality departments, including training and documentation.
  • Promote effective team working and knowledge sharing across departments.

What we look for

Required:

  • HND/HNC or NVQ Level 4 in Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Demonstrable experience in manufacturing processes, continuous improvement, and man-management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, and computer literacy (Excel, Minitab, Access).
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen facilitation.

Preferred:

  • Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification (Blue/Black Belt).
  • Experience with automation, CNC machining, tooling design, and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
  • Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing environments and digital factory implementation.
