Job Description

   

Reports To: Group Financial Controller (GFC) 

Job Summary:

The Head of Revenue and Commission Accounting will be responsible for the management of the Global Revenue Controller and revenue accounting team, and a team of global commissions analysts. 

The role has evolved to primarily focus on revenue, with the addition of commissions management due to planning and risk coverage. 

The core responsibilities of this role will involve ensuring the accuracy and integrity of revenue accounting, controls, compliance with local and group GAAP, and effective collaboration with other departments including Sales, Finance Operations, and Revenue Operations to support the company's financial goals.

 The role will also manage a team of global commissions analysts, responsible for supporting the global sales function, Revenue operations team, and commercial finance. The role also includes ensuring the accuracy of commissions payroll. A key part of this role will be focused on driving efficiency and process improvements, including exploring the use of automation and AI where possible.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and mentor the revenue and commissions accounting team (directly  the Worldwide Revenue Operations Manager  and Senior Sales Manager for Commissions).

  • Global revenue accounting processes and controls.

  • Commissions analysis, governance, and payroll.

  • Drive process improvements and use of technology to streamline and create efficiencies, improving tools to support revenue accounting and commissions management, and consider moving to best-in-class applications.

  • Focus on optimizing revenue management systems to enhance financial visibility and accuracy.

  • Primary audit contact for all things revenue and commissions related.

  • Preparation of accounting memos where applicable.

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards (e.g., IFRS) and company policies, in line with best practice for a software business.

  • Maintain a strong control environment across revenue and commission accounting, to ensure integrity of financial records.

  • Monitor and analyze revenue streams to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Collaborate with sales, finance, and operations teams to align accounting practices with business objectives.

  • Provide technical input to deal construct, and deal desk review process and approvals, taking a more proactive commercial view in contract deals with legal, and making assessments before contracts are signed.

  • Prepare and present financial reports related to revenue and commissions to senior management.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes affecting revenue and commission accounting.

  • Proven ability to lead teams and drive collaboration across all levels of the organization.

  • Experience acting as a strategic business partner, providing financial insights and guidance to senior leadership in both accounting and operational contexts.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. A crucial part of this role will be the capacity to distill complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for both internal stakeholders and external partners including auditors.

  • The capacity to simplify complex accounting matters and deal constructs in layman’s terms for non-finance stakeholders.

  • A solution-focused mindset and positive team player.

  • An individual who thrives on autonomy and will seek to solve problems and provide recommendations.

  • Strong ability to make sound decisions and lead teams effectively in high-pressure situations, providing stability and clear direction.

  • Demonstrated commitment to driving process efficiency and operational excellence, always seeking innovative solutions to enhance financial and accounting functions.

  • Ideally, an individual who has previously operated at a director level.

  • Strong communicator and intuition to escalate matters as and when appropriate.

  • Ensure strong lines of communication between accounting, commissions and commercial finance.

Qualifications:

  • ACA/ACCA or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in a management finance role, with a strong background in revenue accounting and controls.

  • Understanding of software, particularly subscription models and SaaS metrics, and financial KPIs critical.

  • Finance experience in the software industry, or similar.
