Location: US Remote (with international travel as required)

Process safety isn't something that sits on a shelf. It's built into how plants operate every day, how risks are managed before they become incidents, and how teams make good decisions under pressure.

At Morgan Advanced Materials, we're looking for a Global Process Safety Specialist to help strengthen and continually improve our Process Safety Risk Management framework across our Performance Carbon business. You'll work across multiple manufacturing sites worldwide, partnering with operations, engineering and EHS teams to reduce risk, improve standards and support our goal of Zero Harm.

The Role

This is a specialist role with global reach. You'll be the go-to expert for process safety across our Materials and Finishing operations, helping sites identify, assess and manage major process risks.

Working closely with site leaders, engineering teams and EHS colleagues, you'll provide both strategic direction and hands-on technical support. Some days you'll be facilitating a HAZOP review. Other days you'll be analysing lessons learned from a process safety incident or helping shape global standards that will be adopted across multiple facilities.

You'll need to be comfortable influencing people through a matrix organisation, building credibility with technical experts and operational leaders alike.

ResponsibilitiesWhat You'll Do
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Performance Carbon Process Safety Risk Management strategy.
  • Establish and maintain global process safety standards, policies and governance frameworks.
  • Facilitate and support Process Hazard Assessments including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, DSEAR and other recognised methodologies.
  • Partner with sites to identify, prioritise and reduce major process safety risks.
  • Provide technical process safety support to operations, engineering and EHS teams across multiple manufacturing facilities.
  • Ensure process safety requirements are effectively integrated into Management of Change activities and capital projects.
  • Support the development and maintenance of critical process safety documentation, including P&IDs and related technical records.
  • Lead divisional process safety improvement projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver process safety training, coaching and awareness programmes.
  • Monitor process safety performance and support sites in achieving agreed objectives and KPIs.
  • Lead investigations into process safety events, loss of containment incidents and significant risk exposures.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices across the global manufacturing network.
  • Support audits, compliance reviews and regulatory inspections relating to process safety.

QualificationsWhat you'll bring

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to influence and collaborate across a global organisation.

You'll likely bring:

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Safety Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in Process Safety Management within a high-hazard manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of recognised process safety methodologies, including HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, SIL, FMEA, QRA and Management of Change.
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals, combustible dusts, flammable materials, thermal processes or similar major process hazards.
  • A track record of leading process safety improvement programmes across multiple sites or regions.
  • Experience operating effectively within a matrix organisation.
  • The ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and practically.
  • Strong investigation, problem-solving and risk management skills.
  • Advanced English language skills.
  • Professional membership with IChemE, AIChE or a similar body would be an advantage.

Just as importantly, you're someone who builds trusted relationships, can navigate complexity without creating unnecessary noise, and knows how to turn technical recommendations into practical action.

What You'll Get
  • A genuinely global role with visibility across multiple manufacturing operations.
  • The opportunity to shape and influence process safety strategy across an international business.
  • Close collaboration with experienced operations, engineering and EHS professionals.
  • A culture focused on continuous improvement, operational excellence and employee safety.
  • Competitive salary ($96-$130k) and benefits package including bonus.
  • Flexible working arrangements where business needs allow.
  • Opportunities for professional development and ongoing technical learning.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
