As a Technical Expert, you won’t just maintain equipment — you’ll lead the charge in making it better. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you’ll be the go-to authority for your area, driving performance, reliability, and innovation across both GMP and non-GMP assets.

We’re looking for someone who’s not satisfied with quick fixes. You’ll ask why a failure occurred, dig deep into root causes, and implement solutions that prevent recurrence. Your mindset should be one of continuous improvement, always seeking smarter, safer, and more efficient ways to work.

This is a leadership role without direct reports — ideal for someone who leads by example, takes full ownership and accountability, and collaborates cross-functionally to deliver results. You’ll influence others, guide technical direction, and champion best practices in maintenance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical leadership of your designated area(s), ensuring equipment performance and driving improvement initiatives.

  • Collaborate closely with Operations and guide the efforts of assigned technical resources as needed.

  • Lead comprehensive root cause analyses and implement robust corrective and preventive actions.

  • Design, execute, and continuously improve maintenance programs and SOPs to maximize equipment uptime and efficiency.

  • Apply reliability-centred maintenance, predictive tools, and condition monitoring to optimize asset performance.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with service providers, including regular supplier performance reviews.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • proactive, action-oriented mindset with the ability to influence, challenge, and lead

  • Curious – enjoys finding the why and ensuring prevention for the future

  • Proven experience in a similar engineering role within manufacturing — pharma or food sectors preferred.

  • Completed engineering apprenticeship with further education (HNC/HND or higher preferred).

If you’re driven by curiosity, passionate about solving problems and ready to lead through technical excellence, we’d love to hear from you!

IPSEN is committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications, individuals are encouraged to apply regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
