Structural Design Engineer — Design Creative, Sustainable Solutions That Restore Damaged Buildings to Life

Are you a Structural Design Engineer who thrives on solving complex, real-world problems? This is an exciting opportunity to join our busy and collaborative design office, where no two projects are ever quite the same. Working closely with the Design Office Manager, you'll develop creative and practical design solutions for buildings that have been damaged by fires, floods and subsidence — restoring them safely, cost-effectively and to the highest standards. From producing detailed drawings to obtaining the relevant permissions, you'll play a central role in bringing damaged properties back to life.

This is a role that rewards precision, creativity and technical expertise in equal measure. A significant proportion of our work involves listed buildings, so an appreciation of historic and traditional building techniques will serve you well, alongside your core knowledge of designing and specifying sub-structure schemes. You'll draw on your CAD skills daily, balancing engineering rigour with the ingenuity needed to find the most suitable and sustainable outcome for every scheme.

We're proud to be forward-thinking in how we work. You'll stay at the forefront of innovative and environmentally sustainable repair solutions, actively helping us develop net zero approaches while sharing your knowledge through the training of colleagues across the wider business. While the role is primarily home-based, offering you genuine flexibility and autonomy, travel to sites will be a regular and rewarding part of the job — giving you the chance to see your designs take shape and monitor schemes first-hand. If you're a confident communicator with first-class attention to detail and a passion for engineering excellence, we'd love to hear from you.

The skills you will have when you apply:
  • Sub-structure expertise — A thorough understanding of construction engineering, particularly sub-structure works, including the design and specification of schemes.
  • Qualified engineer — An engineering degree or similar qualification.
  • CAD proficiency — Competence and confidence in the use of CAD for producing detailed design drawings.
  • Senior influence — The ability to effectively influence and engage with stakeholders at a senior level.
  • Organised & methodical — Strong organisational and administrative skills, with excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • IT literate — A comprehensive understanding of Windows-based programmes, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Clear communicator — The ability to communicate clearly and confidently with a range of people, both on the phone and face-to-face.
  • Team player — Strong teamwork skills, working collaboratively within the design office and wider business.
  • Customer-focused — A superb communicator who delivers first-class customer service on every scheme.
What we’ll give you for this role:

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
