Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

As our Data Engineer, you will design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that power analytics, reporting and data-led decision-making across the organisation. You will work closely with Power BI analysts, data scientists and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure and high-quality data solutions that make a meaningful business impact.

You will bring strong technical expertise across data architecture, ETL processes and cloud platforms, alongside a collaborative approach and a genuine drive to improve how data is structured, accessed and used.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will design, build and maintain robust ETL and ELT pipelines that provide reliable, high-quality data across the organisation.
  • You will create scalable ingestion processes that bring together structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.
  • You will develop and maintain modern data warehouses and data lakes that support reporting, analytics and data science.
  • You will design effective data models, including dimensional, star and snowflake schemas, to make data easier to access and use.
  • You will deploy and manage cloud-based data solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • You will monitor and optimise database, platform and storage performance to improve scalability, resilience and efficiency.
  • You will partner with analysts, data scientists and business stakeholders to translate requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • You will ensure data is accurate, available and trusted by embedding quality checks throughout pipelines and platforms.
  • You will implement appropriate data governance, security, access controls and data protection measures.
  • You will ensure solutions meet relevant regulatory, risk and information security requirements.
  • You will create clear technical documentation, share knowledge and contribute to continuous improvement across the data environment.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, or poven experience in data engineering or a related role.
  • You will bring strong SQL and Python skills, along with solid database experience across relational and non-relational platforms.
  • You will have hands-on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as dbt Cloud, Azure Data Factory or Fabric Pipelines.
  • You will have practical experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP; relevant cloud certifications would be an advantage.
  • You will understand data warehousing concepts and dimensional modelling, and how to design data that is easy to access and use.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Fivetran or Alteryx would be beneficial.
  • You will bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ideally with an understanding of finance data.
  • You will have a high level of attention to detail and a strong commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality data.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
