The Senior Principal Software Engineer is a part of our Product and Engineering team who are at the forefront of keeping our customers safe from attacks and breaches. In this role you will be focussed on helping our customers seamlessly manage their security solutions as effectively and efficiently as possible, and ensuring our products are delivering a secure experience. You will be working on a high impact and cross-functional team, creating end-to-end security solutions that drive customer success.

InsightCloudSec is Rapid7's leading Cloud Security solution and a part of the broader Rapid7 product portfolio. It offers customers a fully-integrated set of tools to secure their cloud platforms in a single solution. Our customers use the product to identify and remediate cloud misconfigurations and risk across multiple areas, including CSPM, IAM risk, IaC scanning and container vulnerability scanning.
We're focused on emerging threats, and keeping pace with the innovation delivered by Cloud Security Providers to ensure our customers stay secure.
The role can be thought of from three different angles. The skills you will beed to possess as an engineer, the leadership of fellow engineers and projects and processes across the company, and the impact which you will have on our architecture, capabilities and ultimately our business.
Skills

  • Demonstrate significant subject-matter expertise in Rapid7's business and use cases and designs architectures that support them
  • Creates architecture that enables many potential futures without knowing exactly what the future is
  • Anticipate broad technical change and ensure Rapid7 is always ahead of the curve
  • Understand deeply the entire architecture for the Rapid7 platform and anticipate scaling and reliability limits, and execute on solutions


Leadership

  • Lead the conversations internally about the direction of major areas of the technology, drives wide-team consensus to the adoption of this direction, and use this direction to inspire engineers
  • Be seen as a role model and mentor to every technical member of the Rapid7 engineering organization
  • Identify new strategic initiatives or technical vision and create a strategy to realize them across functional areas.
  • Promote a culture of good design and architecture, with an openness to new ideas/technologies and innovation
  • Work with senior management to align technical and organisational/commercial goals.


Impact

  • Act as an architect across multiple product lines or platform services, with a focus on cloud capabilities
  • Use deep technical expertise and experience to successfully lead architecture of new product lines and major capabilities from inception to delivery.
  • Play a key role in developing multi-year technology strategy for complete and critical areas of the business that encompass multiple systems and teams across the Platform
