This role operates at the intersection of strategy and execution. You will work with high autonomy in a fast-paced, founder-driven environment where speed, ownership, and results matter more than hierarchy or handholding.

Role Overview

As Business Development Manager – UK, you will act as BJAK’s on-the-ground representative, responsible for building strategic insurer partnerships, navigating local market and regulatory dynamics, and executing commercial strategies that drive measurable revenue impact.

You will work closely with the Country Manager and senior leadership, shaping BJAK’s UK growth strategy while owning end-to-end execution across partnerships, revenue, and performance.

Key ResponsibilitiesPartnership Acquisition & Activation
  • Identify, prospect, qualify, negotiate, and close strategic insurer and ecosystem partnerships within aggressive timelines.

  • Own the full partnership lifecycle — from initial outreach and relationship building through negotiation, onboarding, integration, and go-live.

  • Drive fast-market-entry partnerships and minimize activation timelines through proactive stakeholder alignment.

Pipeline Ownership & Execution
  • Build, own, and manage a robust and visible pipeline of insurer and strategic partners in the UK market.

  • Maintain disciplined follow-ups, accurate CRM hygiene, and clear reporting to ensure consistent deal progression and closures.

  • Operate with urgency — no stalled deals, no loose ends.

  • Lead commercial negotiations with strong judgment on pricing, underwriting alignment, and partnership economics.

  • Collaborate closely with legal, product, technology, operations, and compliance teams to finalize agreements and accelerate execution.

  • Align internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth onboarding and timely go-lives.

Revenue Delivery & Partner Performance
  • Own monthly revenue, policy, and activation targets.

  • After go-live, continue driving partner productivity, volume growth, and KPI performance.

  • Identify cross-sell, upsell, and optimization opportunities to convert partnerships into long-term, scalable revenue streams.

Strategic Leadership & Market Advisory
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the Country Manager on UK market dynamics, insurer behavior, regulatory considerations, and growth opportunities.

  • Represent the Country Manager in meetings, calls, and written communications with partners, regulators, and stakeholders as required.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between leadership, partners, and internal teams to enable fast decision-making and execution.

Operational Excellence & Governance
  • Proactively identify, escalate, and resolve partner or execution issues while maintaining high standards of service and delivery.

  • Contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and operational improvements alongside senior leadership.

  • Support resource and capacity planning, including input on staffing and operational priorities aligned with business growth.

  • Ensure full compliance with company policies, procedures, and UK regulatory requirements.

  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately across all stakeholders to support effective operations.

Requirements
  • If you need to be nudged, reminded, or handheld — this is not the role
You must be highly self-driven, proactive, and accountable. We expect initiative, not instructions.

  • Permanent residency in the UK and deep understanding of local insurance market dynamics and regulations.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in insurance and/or fintech, with strong commercial and negotiation capability.

  • Proven understanding of insurer economics, underwriting considerations, and partnership structures.

  • Established network within the UK insurance ecosystem, enabling immediate access to senior-level stakeholders.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
