To contribute collaboratively within a Digital squad to deliver high‑quality, customer‑focused digital experiences by performing hands‑on engineering, following modern best practices, and supporting ongoing improvement, while actively engaging in continuous learning to strengthen technical capability.
As an Associate Engineer in the Digital team, you will collaborate to contribute within your squad. You’ll work alongside other Engineers, Designers, Architects, Craft Specialists, Principal Engineers, and key stakeholders around the bank to ensure we:
Deliver amazing new digital experiences for our customers
Build in-line with modern best practices
Comply with our standards and policies
Avoid technical debt
Support and role model agreed work practices
Contribute to sprint goals that align with delivery, customer, and strategic objectives
This role is primarily focused on hands-on engineering, collaboration, and technical excellence. You will contribute to shaping the technical direction of your squad and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Team Contribution
Assist in code reviews and ensure adherence to software engineering best practices
Engage in discussions to understand requirements and contribute to technical solutions with guidance from senior engineers
Design, develop, and test new product features with support from senior engineers, aiming to minimise bugs
Actively participate in Agile software development practices, including sprint planning and retrospectives
Create, review, and maintain technical documentation
Technical Expertise
Assist in conducting POCs to research and identify optimal solutions
Gain experience with tools like Jira and Confluence
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving production incidents under the guidance of senior engineers
Work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders, incorporating feedback to improve solutions, participate in Unit Testing
Engage in continuous learning and development to enhance technical skills and knowledge and actively seek opportunities for professional growth
Uses existing education and skills to perform basic coding in allocated application or domain
Uses approved AI tools responsibly for learning support, validating outputs and complying with data, privacy, and security standards
Planning and Collaboration
Work collaboratively with the team and stakeholders, incorporating feedback when appropriate
Demonstrate passion and energy to encourage enthusiasm among the team in bringing projects to life
Be adaptable and flexible to changes in priorities and demands
Assist in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining applications with a focus on high availability and performance
Help debug, resolve, and support technical problems that arise
Produce relevant documentation throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

Experience
Exposure to Kotlin OR Swift, with a willingness

Skills and Knowledge
Familiarity with Agile development practices

Basic understanding of technologies such as React, TypeScript, Spring Boot, Java, Git, Docker, and, if mobile development, Kotlin and Swift, with a willingness to learn others
Understands and can discuss terminology, concepts, principles and issues related to work
Learns about existing tools, resources, and processes in a self‑managed way through independent exploration and self‑directed learning.
