The Product team at Cloudflare is responsible for building products that help make a better Internet. Product sits at the intersection of software development, design, and business strategy. We shape high-level product goals but also get our hands dirty. We have ultimate responsibility for understanding our client needs, influencing business strategy, feature specification, and working with engineering to develop our software.
About the Role
As a Vice President of Product Management, you will guide product development through all stages of the product life cycle: identifying customer needs and developing, launching, and sustaining products. You will guide strategy and product development that shapes the next generation of Cloudflare's offerings. You will represent Cloudflare to customers, vendors, and partners, synthesizing information and communicating what you learn to internal stakeholders. You will build, maintain, and develop a world class team of product managers and leaders who deeply care about Cloudflare's role in helping build a better Internet.
You are an expert in today's Internet, both at a protocol and regulatory level. You have an opinionated view on application optimization, and Internet protocols and performance. You are able to have deep technical discussions with internal and external engineering stakeholders. You also have the soft skills necessary to navigate organizational dependencies and promote your team's work.
This position requires you to be a self-starter with the ability to take ownership, work with tight timelines, handle various tasks simultaneously while maintaining a positive attitude. In addition, great oral communication and written documentation skills are valuable for this role for promoting ideas throughout the company.
What you'll do

  • Lead and encourage a team of accomplished product managers and leaders, enabling high performance and removing obstacles to attainment of their objectives
  • Hire, develop, and retain extraordinary talent to scale the function and meet business goals
  • Guide the development of product strategy and roadmap for a broad portfolio which includes Traffic Management, Data Localization, DNS, TLS Certificate Lifecycle, and IP Address Management.
  • Lead PM efforts across teams from ideation through launch, and continuing through ongoing maintenance and support
  • Implement best-in-class product management processes to increase team velocity, quality, and accountability
  • Develop and nurture relationships with engineering leadership and coordinate closely to ensure successful delivery of product
  • Partner with leaders in other departments such as Product Marketing, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Support to drive adoption with and gather feedback from customers and prospects
  • Build consensus and effectively influence senior-level partners
  • Identify new markets and opportunities for product expansion and build the external and internal relationships required to realize them
  • Represent the company externally as needed, including speaking engagements and other meetings with customers and prospects

Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience

  • 10+ years experience in product management and a proven track record of leading large successful programs that span multiple teams
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead and develop a team of high-performing product managers and product leaders (direct reports)
  • Consistent track record of building and leading product teams: people want to work on your team again
  • Proven track record shipping data-driven, secure, enterprise products at scale in a highly dynamic environment
  • Skilled in providing analysis and estimation of the strategic and financial value of new products and features
  • Strong technical abilities. You are intimately familiar with modern software development practices used to build and deploy applications. You are capable of wading into the details, but can also drive 30k foot view
  • Tolerance for ambiguity, creativity in strategy and execution tactics, and always improving on the status quo
  • Strong customer and stakeholder empathy. You must be not only the voice of the customer, but at various times the voice of marketing, finance, engineering, support and ops. You must be able to channel many points of view.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership in the security industry and extensive knowledge of industry trends and developments
  • A positive "get it done" attitude and the ability to effectively prioritize and advance a large number of projects simultaneously
  • An earned reputation for fairness, dependability and adherence to high ethical standards
  • Defining, tracking and reporting on key performance indicators to determine support effectiveness and efficiency

Bonus Points

  • Ability to validate early ideas through quantitative and qualitative methods (A/B and multivariate testing, user testing, etc). Experience in user experience (UX) design a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with managing mission critical products or services that run at internet scale.
  • Familiarity with Internet traffic management, the global internet and data regulatory landscape, TLS certificate lifecycles, DNS best practices and RFCs, and/or Network and IP Address Management related topics such as BGP and DHCP
  • Scripting/programming experience (Python, Go, etc.) and/or experience with query languages.


Compensation
Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.

  • For Colorado, Illinois, Maryland and Minnesota based hires: Estimated annual salary of $315,000 - $375,000.
  • For New York City, Washington, Washington D.C. and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: Estimated annual salary of $347,000 - USD $400,000
  • For Bay Area based hires: Estimated annual salary of $363,000 - $415,000.
