OVERVIEW
The Vice President, Government Affairs & Policy, North Division, leads Mastercard's public policy, regulatory affairs, and government engagement strategy across Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. The role serves as a trusted advisor to divisional leadership, identifying policy risks and opportunities that impact Mastercard's business, reputation, and long-term growth.
ROLE
The Vice President develops and executes advocacy strategies, engages governments, regulators, central banks, legislators, and industry stakeholders, and advances Mastercard's positions on issues such as payments regulation, digital commerce, real-time payments, open finance, cybersecurity, data governance, competition policy, and financial inclusion.
Working closely with Product, Franchise, Public Sector, Legal, Communications, and other business teams, the role helps shape a favorable policy environment, supports market growth, and protects Mastercard's franchise. The position also leads and develops the North Division Government Affairs & Policy team while ensuring alignment with regional and global priorities.
ALL ABOUT YOU
Minimum of 5 years working in public policy, legislative or government affairs position in a corporate, association or governmental context (preferably in payments industry or financial services sector).
Knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes, including rulemaking processes, in
key markets in LAC North Division are critical skills in this role.
Possess good judgment, a creative approach to problem-solving and the ability to function as a team player. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Must possess strong interpersonal skills, be a team player, and show appreciation of diverse cultural methods of working and doing business, in particular for Mexico and Central America.
Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish, and the ability to work well with business partners across the North Division, the United States and with colleagues in other LAC Divisions and other regions.
Demonstrate a proactive, time-sensitive, results driven approach in carrying out all duties, obligations, and responsibilities. Thorough, meticulous and attentive to detail but nevertheless able to prioritize, focus on the important rather than just urgent matters and get the job done. Must be able to contribute and operate effectively within a diverse multicultural organization.
Experience considered useful but not essential for the role:
Understanding and knowledge of the public policy issues currently confronting the payments sector of the financial services industry very helpful.
Experience working for a global US corporation, whether in headquarters or in a region, reporting to headquarters in another country.
