Business unit overview

BlackRock’s Global Indirect Tax Group is responsible for managing VAT, GST and other indirect taxes for the BlackRock group globally. The Indirect Tax Group is part of BlackRock’s Group Tax function which consists of over 100 tax professionals across 15 global locations.

Role overview & background

We’re looking for a talented, driven and hands-on VAT professional to play a key part in supporting VAT and other indirect tax advisory and compliance matters for BlackRock’s global business.

The role offers the opportunity to work with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external, across a broad range indirect tax activities, including: supporting with tax audits and tax authority requests; providing indirect tax guidance and training to the BlackRock businesses; and supporting with a wide variety of tax specific and firm-wide project work.

We’re looking for a self-starting, highly skilled, qualified VAT professional, who is well organised, has strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple work streams with varied deadlines.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting global indirect tax workstreams and project work across a range of advisory, compliance and technology initiatives
  • Supporting indirect tax aspects of organisational initiatives, including group and organisational restructurings, expansion into new locations, new products and service offerings, M&A, etc.
  • Supporting with tax audits, and BlackRock’s responses to tax authority requests
  • Supporting with indirect tax technology and process transformation
  • Preparing and maintaining VAT/GST guidance documents for use within the BlackRock businesses
  • Providing indirect tax advice to the BlackRock businesses
  • Reviewing pro-rata recovery rate and annual adjustment calculations and methodologies
  • Contributing to the enhancement of knowledge of indirect taxes across the BlackRock businesses
  • Supporting digital VAT/GST reporting requirements, including in countries where new requirements are implemented

Experience/competencies

  • Experience working in VAT including advising on, or dealing with, VAT exempt services, partly exempt businesses, and cross border and international services
  • Ability to clearly and confidently communicate in verbal and written form
  • Ability to develop a network and collaborative working relationships across multiple teams internally, and with external tax advisors
  • Highly organised, strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple work streams with varied deadlines
  • Ability to manage and analyse large data sets
  • Team player, with an ability to adjust to change and the desire to take on responsibility
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

Skills/qualifications

  • CA/ACA (or equivalent) and/or CTA preferred, however, strong candidates who are qualified by experience will also be considered
  • Experience working in Financial Services and/or a multinational organisation advantageous
  • Competent in use of Microsoft Excel, including the use of advanced formulas and pivot tables
