The Guardian Mobile team sits within Motorola Solutions' International Mobile Applications organisation and serves frontline requirements for UK Fire officers - across mobile platforms such as Windows MDTs, Android and iOS.
Job Description
This role is primarily Remote, but with a requirement to attend our Glasgow office for team days a couple of times per month. On occasion, you may also be required to visit other UK Motorola development sites or Customer visits. 

As a Senior User Experience Designer, you will be the lead designer for the Guardian Mobile team, sitting within Motorola Solutions' International Mobile Applications organisation and serving frontline requirements for Fire Fighters across the UK and beyond. 

You will collaborate with product managers, developers, data scientists, subject matter experts and other members of the global Experience Design & Research Team to design the next generation of public safety applications. You will be enabling a design-led product development process with a human-centered approach. You will be leveraging the power of design to inspire change and execute the vision.
 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Translate customer insights into innovative designs that elevate public safety applications.

  • Optimize design processes, establish best practices, and ensure exceptional design quality.

  • Advocate for design excellence and evolve the UX culture within the organization.

  • Build strong partnerships across Product, Engineering, and Research teams to ensure alignment and success.

  • Adapt to rapidly shifting priorities and contribute to an agile, fast-paced innovation environment.

  • Champion a user-centered approach in the development and application of AI technologies.

  • Leverage industry best practices and tools to create wireframes, flows, visual, and prototypes to communicate design intent to stakeholders

  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI (ML, NLP, generative AI) to solve user problems and create novel, delightful experiences.

  • Collaborate with researchers, product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to translate AI capabilities into tangible user benefits and design requirements.

  • Design and/or research user interactions with AI-powered features and systems, ensuring they are intuitive, transparent, and trustworthy.

  • Contribute to the development of best practices, ethical guidelines, and design patterns for Human-AI interaction within our organization.

  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI and their potential applications in experience design and research.

  • Effectively communicate research findings, design concepts, and AI possibilities to diverse audiences.


Basic Requirements

IMPORTANT - This role requires security clearance, you must be able to attain SC and NPPV3 clearances to be eligible for this role

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree: in HCI, Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5+ years proven experience in Design: (such as UX, CX, Interaction Design, Product Design)

  • Portfolio: Showcasing exceptional UX design for apps and services that showcases your process, skills, and impact. Please highlight any projects or thinking related to AI if available.

  • Design Software Fluency: Strong preference for Figma, but demonstrable experience with design industry apps for design, prototyping, and whiteboarding are a must.

  • AI Literacy: A strong understanding of core Artificial Intelligence concepts, including Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Generative AI – their capabilities, limitations, and ethical considerations. You don't need to be an AI developer, but you must understand how these technologies work at a conceptual level.

  • Problem Solver: Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a knack for identifying user needs and framing them as design or research challenges.

  • User-Centric Mindset: A deep passion for understanding and advocating for the user.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Exceptional ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and articulate complex ideas clearly (verbally and visually).

  • Adaptability & Continuous Learning: Eagerness to learn new technologies and methodologies, particularly in the rapidly evolving AI space. Ability to thrive in an environment with dynamic priorities.
