Working at Citi is far more than just a job. A career with us means joining a team of approximately 219,000 dedicated people from around the globe. At Citi, you'll have the opportunity to grow your career, give back to your community and make a real impact.

Job Overview

Engineer the future of global finance. At Citi, our Tech team doesn't just support finance – we are helping to redefine it. Every day, $5 trillion crosses through our network. We do business in 180+ countries operating at a scale few can match. From deploying advanced AI to helping shape global markets, we build systems that matter. Look to join a team where your work helps influence economies, your ideas can drive innovation and outcomes, and your growth is backed by mentorship, continuous learning and flexibility with potential hybrid work opportunities. Help solve real-world challenges that touch millions and get the opportunity to build the future of finance with Citi Tech.

About the Role

We're not here to make things look pretty. We design the tools thousands of Citi colleagues use every day - and when the design is right, people feel it.

As a Product Designer in our UX Design Group, you'll work across the full design lifecycle: discovery and research, information architecture, ideation, prototyping, and production-ready design delivery. We're also evolving how we practice - actively integrating AI-assisted tools and workflows to move faster and design smarter.

The UX Design Group helps turn complex business processes into tools that are clear, efficient, and intuitive to use. We partner closely with users, product teams, and engineers to design experiences that reduce friction, support better decisions, and help people do their best work.

What You'll Do

  • Meet with internal users, product sponsors, and technology partners to understand requirements and uncover pain points in existing workflows
  • Conduct UX research, define information architecture, map user journeys, and build personas that reflect the needs of enterprise users across global business lines
  • Translate complex, data-heavy workflows into clear, intuitive interface designs suited to high-frequency professional use
  • Identify and track metrics and qualitative signals that inform and validate design decisions
  • Collaborate with business analysts, product managers, and engineering teams to brainstorm, co-create, and iterate on solutions
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs using Figma, Figma Make, and AI-assisted design tools
  • Incorporate AI-assisted design techniques into your workflow — from generative ideation and content prototyping to using AI tools that accelerate research synthesis and design iteration
  • Use and contribute to the approved design system, helping maintain consistency across a large and complex product estate
  • Adhere to and help improve design standards and best practices
  • Ensure all designs comply with ADA/WCAG accessibility standards
  • Perform detailed design handover to development teams and provide ongoing support during build, with regular UX review checkpoints to ensure quality and fidelity
  • Keep up to date with the latest UX practices, AI design tooling, and emerging patterns in enterprise software
  • Apply a positive and constructive attitude to all feedback and sound ethical judgment to design decisions, including the responsible use of AI in the design process
  • Deliver on time, proactively identifying and managing risks and escalating where needed
  • Help to train and support junior team members
  • Contribute to the wider UX community of practice
  • Uphold Citi's standards by assessing risk appropriately, adhering to policy, and escalating control issues with transparency

What We're Looking For

You don't need a decade of experience - you need curiosity, craft, and the ability to bring clarity to complexity. We're looking for a designer who asks good questions, sweats the details, and genuinely enjoys the challenge of making hard problems feel simple.

Must-Have

  • Demonstrable experience designing complex digital products, ideally within enterprise or B2B environments
  • Strong proficiency in Figma, including familiarity with Figma Make or AI-assisted design workflows
  • Experience using and contributing to design systems at scale
  • Solid understanding of UX research methods and how to apply findings to design decisions
  • Working knowledge of ADA/WCAG accessibility standards
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking — comfortable working with dense, data-rich interfaces
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to articulate design rationale to non-design stakeholders
  • Experience delivering within agile teams

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted design tools (e.g. generative UI, AI-powered research synthesis, or LLM-integrated prototyping workflows)
  • HTML/CSS development skills
  • Interest in or knowledge of financial services, banking operations, or compliance-driven products
  • Experience designing for internal tooling, operations platforms, or workflow-heavy applications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; Master's degree preferred. Equivalent demonstrable experience is equally welcome.

Why Citi Belfast?

Belfast is one of Citi's largest technology and operations hubs in Europe - and it's a genuinely great place to build a design career.

  • A design community, not just a team. You'll be part of an active UX community of practice with peer reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and regular contact with designers across the globe.
  • Real scale, real problems. The products you design will be used across Citi's worldwide operations. There's no shortage of meaty, complex challenges to sink your teeth into.
  • AI at the frontier of design practice. We're not talking about AI as a future plan — it's part of how we work now, and you'll have space to experiment, learn, and help shape how our team uses it.
  • Mentorship and growth built in. This is an intermediate role with experienced designers around you, a supportive team culture, and structured opportunities to keep developing your craft and expanding your impact at Citi.
  • Local roots, global reach. You'll be based in our Belfast hub — with all the community and connection that brings — while working as a fully integrated member of Citi's global UX team, collaborating with designers across regions and time zones.
  • Hybrid flexibility. Up to 2 days working from home per week, in a business-casual environment that trusts you to manage your own work.

What we'll provide you

By joining Citi Belfast, you will not only be part of a business casual workplace with a hybrid working model (up to 2 days working at home per week), but also receive a competitive base salary (which is annually reviewed), and enjoy a whole host of additional benefits such as:

  • 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)
  • A discretional annual performance related bonus
  • Private Medical Care & Life Insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Pension Plan
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Special discounts for employees, family, and friends
  • Access to an array of learning and development resources

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
