Technology Apprentice | BSc Financial Technology

Program overview

You’re the brains behind our work.

You’re ready to bring your knowledge from the classroom to the boardroom and Citi wants to help you get there. Whether it’s honing your skills or building your network, we know that success can’t come without growth. Our programmes equip you with the knowledge and training you need to play a valuable role on your team and establish a long-term career here. At Citi, we value internal mobility and career growth is not a question of if, but when.

Belfast is home to the Security Services Technology (SST) organization with contributors across Funds/Markets & Custody. Successful candidates will play a key role in the Custody SST area of the business. Custodian services include, inter alia, settling clients’ transactions efficiently, execution on foreign exchange, servicing corporate actions, serving as clients’ proxy for shareholder votes. Citi currently has 24 trillion in assets under custody and administration and a global custody network spanning more than 100 markets.

Program description

We provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed.

We’re committed to teaching you the ropes and then some. During the programme, you will study for a BSc (Hons) Financial Technology Apprenticeship qualification. Aside from your peer group and manager, you will have a buddy and a dedicated program manager whilst on programme. You will have access to first class technical and business training from well-established team, plus Citi’s online training portal.

Side by side job shadowing and coaching with your team will be combined with the opportunity to work with Tech/Operations and Product peers in one of the world’s largest investment banks. You will gain valuable insight into the workings within technology teams and how they deliver for various functions within the bank. You will have exposure to new and cutting-edge technologies including big data plus the opportunity to experience different types of technology roles across the full SDLC from gathering business requirements through analysis, product & project management, software development and release management.

Program responsibilities

As an apprentice in Custody Technology your typical day will look something like this:

  • Business Analysis & Project Management – using business knowledge to assist with data analysis, coordinating and documenting requirements gathering, liaising with developers, testers, and other technology teams throughout project lifecycles and working with a global and diverse range of people and systems across multiple business and technology units.

  • Organisational and operational efficiency improvements - Nobody likes to repeat the same actions every day and click the same buttons, so our apprentices get involved in efficiency improvements to see where tasks can be automated or streamlined to free their time to get involved in exciting projects!

Qualifications

We want to hear from you if…

  • You have 5 GCSEs including Maths with a minimum grade C (or equivalent) and English Language with a minimum grade C (or equivalent)

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
