Job Description

Are you passionate about solving complex problems through technology and leading teams that deliver exceptional solutions? Do you thrive on challenges, love building high-performing teams, and have the technical expertise to back it all up? If so, we'd love for you to join us as a Technical Lead at PA Consulting.

As our Technical Lead, you'll be the driving force behind innovative solutions, steering technical teams through complex challenges and guiding our clients towards successful digital transformations.

Your role will extend beyond technical leadership, requiring a deep understanding of architecture, software development, and engineering best practices. Your ability to align solutions with client needs and industry best practices is crucial, as is your passion for continuous improvement and innovation.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Collaborate with clients to develop solutions that address their unique challenges, bridging the gap between business objectives and technical capabilities

  • Lead technical teams in the delivery of complex solutions, providing mentorship to engineers and fostering an environment of continuous improvement

  • Be ready to roll up your sleeves when needed. Whether debugging, troubleshooting, or guiding architecture decisions, you’ll lead from the front

  • Drive our internal growth by leading recruitment efforts, designing and delivering training, and actively participating in our communities of practices

  • Leverage your technical expertise to shape solutions and contribute insights to help win new projects

Qualifications

We understand that there's no one-size-fits-all approach to talent, so we encourage people from diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply. Don't worry about ticking every box in this list; we're more interested in meeting brilliant candidates who can bring unique perspectives to our team.

  • Excellent communicator and collaborative team player, focused on building strong relationships with colleagues and clients.

  • Solid foundation in engineering principles, scalable system design, and security best practices.

  • Experience in mentoring and developing junior engineers. Ability to nurture talent within the team, guiding them to enhance their skills in coding, architecture, and problem-solving through coaching, reviews, and pair programming.

  • Proven experience delivering enterprise-grade applications on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) with expertise in designing scalable, cloud-native solutions.

  • Extensive experience leading technical delivery within Agile teams, using Scrum or Kanban methodologies.

  • Expertise in technical decision-making and guiding teams towards implementing maintainable, long-term solutions.

  • Strong proficiency in at least one programming language (preferably JavaScript, Java, .Net) and relevant frameworks, with demonstrated ability to design and implement full-stack solutions.

  • Proven capability in shaping the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle, driving improvements across development, testing, deployment, and operational phases.

  • Experience implementing infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and efficient release management strategies.

  • Experience collaborating with DevOps and SRE teams, utilising monitoring and observability tools to drive continuous improvement.

  • Proven ability to assess and improve system performance through techniques such as load testing, caching strategies, and optimisation of database queries and application logic to improve scalability and response times.

  • Expertise in modern engineering standards such as TDD, contract testing, and secure coding, as well as architectural patterns like event-driven architecture and platform migration.

  • Skilled at making technical decisions and trade-offs that positively impact teams and solutions.

  • Continuous learner with a growth mindset, staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends, and bringing this knowledge into the team to enhance technical capabilities and delivery standards.

Flexible working - We are guided by our client work and needs; however, you have autonomy to manage your time and diary to suit your work/life balance.

We know the skill-gap and ‘somewhat need to tick every box’ can get in the way of meeting brilliant candidates, so please don’t hesitate to apply – we’d love to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
