Cloudflare's R2 team is comprised of the R2 object storage service and Queues, our global queuing service that allows applications to reliably send and receive messages. In this role, you'll work with a top-notch engineering team to drive these products forward by ensuring continual reliability, maintaining best-in-class performance, and implementing new features and functionality.

Emerging Technologies & Incubation (ETI) is where new and bold products are built and released within Cloudflare. What you'll do
In this role, you will collaborate with Customers, Designers, and Product Managers to design and build systems that push the boundaries of what is possible at the Cloudflare edge. You will own your code from inception to release, delivering solutions at all layers of the software stack to empower Cloudflare customers. On any given day, you might write a design document that outlines how you plan to solve a specific problem or implement a new feature, modify how R2 and Queues process requests, or fix a bug that's impacting our users. You can expect to interact with a variety of languages and technologies including. We primarily use Typescript and Go.
Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience

  • 4+ years of Software Engineering experience (preferably backend experience)
  • Experience building and managing high volume software applications.
  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented or functional design.
  • Knowledge of at least one modern strongly-typed programming language: we primarily use Go, TypeScript, and Rust.
  • Experience debugging, optimizing and identifying failure modes in a large-scale distributed system.

Compensation
Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.

  • For New York City, Washington, and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: Estimated annual salary of $154,000 - $188,000
  • For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $162,000 - $198,000

This role is eligible to participate in Cloudflare's equity plan.
