Supplier Performance Manager

Location: Belfast with some travel (1 visit per month)

Our opportunity

Thales Integrated Air Systems manufacturing division, who provide parts and materials for all products for Missile programmes on the Belfast Site for space and defence, are looking to recruit a Supplier Performance Manager.

Our supply chain is a fundamental aspect of our business and has a significant influence on products, delivery performance and competitiveness; therefore we are constantly looking to improve its level of performance and conformance across our business portfolio. The Supplier Performance Manager will work with our key suppliers to help improve their quality systems, production processes and capabilities. In this role, you will manage supplier quality & delivery performance through the utilisation of continuous improvement techniques, performance reviews, Supplier Performance Tool, Risk & Opportunity Management and other action plans. You will act as a conduit to improve the overall operational interface between Thales and the Supplier, using lessons learned for the continuous improvement for both Thales UK and our customers.

Day to day you will:

  • Identify opportunities for innovation sharing, co-design/development utilising the relevant capabilities of both parties for mutual benefit.

  • Support Thales Group activities during supplier crisis management activities.

  • Manage the performance of the Suppliers in terms of On Time Delivery and On Conformity Delivery in order to achieve A Class Performance.

  • Build and maintain the conditions, both internal and external, enabling performance by;​​

​- Putting in place the continuous improvement principles and a strong operational relationships model between Thales and the Suppliers.

​- Managing the Performance Review at the supplier’s site focused on improve ment by utilising the Supplier Performance Tool

- Reporting the Performance of the Suppliers to the key stakeholder via the Supplier Performance Tool.

  • Be responsible for the deployment of corrective and preventive action plans which address process, product, or component alerts from industrial operations, customer line fit manufactures, or field support.

  • Review of threats to supply and ensuring appropriate risk mitigation measures are identified and implemented to minimise potential impact to our business

  • Deploy Best Practice techniques including 8D, Six Sigma, DMAIC or Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to identify and evaluate the potential failures of process, prioritize actions to alleviate risk in both Thales and Supplier, ensure permanent resolution through effective Root Cause Analysis and Corrective/Preventative Action plans.

  • Support Relationship management reviews and assessments to enhance Buyer / Supplier relationships.

  • Support or upon request participate in, supplier Audits and manage the closure of Audit actions/findings.

  • Coordinating supplier Risk Management Plan activities with IAS suppliers and all internal stakeholders

About you

You are delivery focused with excellent stakeholder management and engagement skills. You will have experience of managing compressed lead times along with prioritization and reporting or report creation. Alongside this, the following skills and experience will set you up for success in the role:

  • Demonstrable history of managing performance improvement projects.

  • Understanding and knowledge of Quality Management principles and systems.

  • Supply chain engineering experience within a low to medium volume environment, light mechanical / electro-mechanical production environment or other relevant sectors.

  • Awareness and use of continuous improvement techniques and practical implementation of lean manufacturing.

  • Experience of operational management, manufacturing and ERP systems, including routings, BOM`s, Concessions, Change Requests etc.

  • Broad process knowledge including machining, assembly (both mechanical and electronic) and test.

  • Industry experience in Defence, Aerospace and Security would be desirable.

  • Business acumen, awareness of organisational models, markets, technologies.
