ABOUT THIS ROLE
We're seeking an innovative, passionate, and forward-thinking individual to join us as a Staff Software Engineer. This is an opportunity to join a fast-paced team with the urgency of a startup and the expertise of an established organi s ation . Due to the space we innovate in, your products will process billions of transactions per day in real-time and power both startup and established industry participants. As a Staff Software Engineer with expertise in enterprise API services you will play a crucial role in leading the design, development, and optimi s ation of our solutions to ensure robust and secure API management. You will collaborate closely with platform engineers, product managers, and system administrators to enhance these systems, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability. Additionally, you will provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers on the team.
Duties/Responsibilities

  • Software Development: Lead the development of high-quality, scalable, and efficient code to support our API edge functionalities. Utilise various programming languages and frameworks to build and enhance software solutions.


  • API Edge Services Development: Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-level solutions, ensuring they are well-architected, secure, and efficient. Implement best practices for API management, including version control, security policies, and traffic management.
  • NGINX Configuration and Optimisation: Configure and optimi s e NGINX servers to handle high-volume traffic efficiently. Develop and improve policies for load balancing, reverse proxy, and caching strategies to enhance performance.
  • Automation and Integration: Develop and maintain automation tools to streamline API deployments and configurations. Integrate API solutions with CI/CD pipelines to automate the deployment process. Contribute to infrastructure automation efforts to support the deployment and management of our services.
  • Documentation and Training: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, guidelines, and best practices for edge services . Lead training sessions to ensure teams understand and follow best practices effectively. Promote and enforce best practices for API management.
  • Monitoring and Optimisation: Monitor the performance and security of services , identifying bottlenecks and potential issues. Optimi s e the infrastructure to ensure efficient delivery. Implement logging and monitoring solutions to provide real-time insights into API performance and security.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with platform engineers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between API activities and business goals. Communicate updates, enhancements, and changes to relevant teams. Participate in post-implementation reviews and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and senior engineers. Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies .


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 7+ years of professional experience working as part of a multi-person development team, including code reviews, testing, CI, trunk-based development, and other software practices.
  • Experience working with modern database systems (e.g., BigQuery , Postgres, Mongo, Redis).


Required Skills/Abilities

  • Expertise in one or more server-side programming languages including Java, Go, and Python.
  • Deep knowledge of API management methodologies, security practices, and traffic management strategies.
  • Proven ability to visualise, propose, document, and implement system design.
  • A DevSecOps mindset with a strong desire to deliver value through software.
  • Familiarity with containerisation (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), cloud platforms (GCP, AWS), and infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams.
