Staff Product Designer - Platform Transformation
We are leading a major platform transformation in the cybersecurity space-modernizing how security professionals interact with data, systems, and decision-making tools. We're building the next generation of intelligent, scalable, and user-centered capabilities that empower teams to detect, understand, defend, and respond to threats.
To do this, we need a Staff Product Designer who thrives in systems complexity, values research, thinks in terms of outcomes, and wants to shape capabilities that protect real people and infrastructure.
About the Team
The team is driving a platform transformation in cybersecurity through modular, data-driven design that scales across complex workflows. Operating with an AI- and Platform-focused mindset, they embed automation and intelligence into core user experiences.
The group consists of approximately 45 and growing, spanning UX, Product Design, Research, Design Enablement, and Content. Together, they're reimagining the foundation of how security practitioners experience and interact with Rapid7's platform.
About the Role
As a Staff Product Designer, you will drive the transformation of how users engage with a cybersecurity platform-from foundational architecture to end-user workflows. You'll design not just screens, but flexible frameworks rooted in object-oriented thinking, informed by data relationships, and directly tied to the evolution of our design system.
You'll work closely with product managers, engineers, architects, and researchers to understand user needs, identify opportunities for AI and automation, and validate design decisions through data, metrics, and real-world usage.
This role reports directly to the Senior Manager, Product Design. You'll bring a passion for systems thinking, curiosity for cybersecurity, and a desire to deliver design work that's not only usable, but measurably impactful.
In this role, you will:
  • Lead the design of scalable, modular product experiences, ensuring alignment with platform architecture and optimization of key cybersecurity workflows.
  • Translate complex, technical data into clear, intuitive experiences that enable investigation, analysis, and response.
  • Collaborate closely with research to formulate research questions and apply insights to inform critical design decisions and product strategy.
  • Apply object-oriented UX principles to build reusable components and workflows tied to platform entities.
  • Extend and evolve our design system to support cross-product consistency, accessibility, and efficiency.
  • Use customer insights and behavioral data to drive prioritization and design direction.
  • Define success metrics for your design work and partner with product and analytics teams to measure impact.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate AI and intelligent automation into workflows, enhancing user speed, accuracy, and outcomes.
  • Partner closely with engineering to ensure designs are implemented thoughtfully and at scale, addressing technical challenges and optimizing for long-term maintainability.

The Skills and Qualities You'll Bring Include
  • 8+ years of experience in product or UX design, ideally in B2B, enterprise, or platform environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver complex, systems-level design initiatives.
  • Experience designing for data-rich, technical workflows or advanced user interfaces.
  • Strong collaboration skills with research, product, and engineering partners.
  • Ability to define and measure design impact through success metrics and analytics.
  • Experience contributing to or managing design systems.
  • Familiarity with or interest in object-oriented design, platform logic, and data models.
  • Strong skills in systems thinking, interaction design, and data-connected workflows.
  • Proficiency in Figma and related design tools.
  • Curiosity about how AI and automation can enhance product efficiency and user experience.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills and ability to influence product direction.
  • Interest or experience in cybersecurity, threat intelligence, or related technical domains.

Nice to Have
  • Experience in cybersecurity, infrastructure, or data-intensive platforms.
  • Exposure to analytics tools or experimentation frameworks (A/B testing, retention analysis).
  • Understanding of data visualization or technical investigation workflows.
  • Experience contributing to platform modernization or transformation efforts.
  • Familiarity with AI product design or adaptive interfaces.
  • Background in information architecture, object-oriented UX, or content modeling.

We know that the best ideas and solutions come from multi-dimensional teams. That's because these teams reflect a variety of backgrounds and professional experiences. If you are excited about this role and feel your experience can make an impact, please don't be shy-apply today.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
