ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Staff FullStack AI Engineer at WunderGraph, you are a technical leader who defines and drives the architecture of our AI-powered experiences. You will design and ship LLM Agents and Agent Workflows, while shaping the frameworks, practices, and systems that make them scalable, secure, and delightful for our customers.
You will own the technical direction of major AI initiatives across our products, influencing architectural decisions from backend APIs to frontend integration. Your expertise ensures our AI systems are reliable, enterprise-ready, and deliver exceptional developer and user experience.
This is a highly impactful, hands-on role: you’ll be coding, reviewing, mentoring, and collaborating directly with customers while setting the bar for how AI engineering is done at WunderGraph.
TEAM INTEGRATION
Aligns with the CTO on architectural vision and strategic priorities
Collaborates with product managers, engineering peers, and directly with customers
Acts as a mentor and multiplier, guiding senior and mid-level engineers
Closes the feedback loop by engaging directly with users through Slack channels and calls

ROLE TASKS
The role focuses on, but is not limited to:
Architecture & Development
Architect and operate the WunderGraph AI Stack using Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Node.js.
Design and implement backend APIs and services that power AI workflows.
Evaluate and guide the adoption of LLM frameworks and agent architectures.
Define patterns and best practices for scalable AI integrations.
Reliability & Security
Embed security and compliance (SOC 2, enterprise standards) into system design.
Anticipate scaling challenges and design for resilience and performance.
Establish monitoring, observability, and CI/CD standards for AI features.
Leadership & Mentorship
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to senior and mid-level engineers.
Conduct thoughtful code and design reviews, raising quality across the team.
Document architectural decisions and contribute to open knowledge-sharing.
Represent WunderGraph in the AI/engineering community through contributions, talks, or content.
Help us hire and build an exceptional engineering team that sets the standard for the industry
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Staff Level (IC5) experience architecting and operating complex, user-facing applications in production.
Deep expertise in TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Node.js.
Strong understanding of system architecture and API design.
Familiarity with GraphQL and GraphQL Federation is a strong plus.
Experience building developer tools, platforms, or products for highly technical users.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction and resolve ambiguous challenges.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Self-starter with a leader’s mindset: proactive, decisive, and comfortable driving change.

Note: This is a full-time, fully remote position. We are looking for someone who is available to work during European (CET) business hours.

Our process also includes reference and background checks. We aim to respond or provide feedback in 2 or 3 days between each stage of the process. We're usually hiring through Deel as our Employer of Record, except for Germany or Florida where we're hiring directly.
