The Role

AlphaSense is hiring a Senior Director of People Programs & Talent to build the company’s first truly cohesive set of enterprise people programs. This is a foundational role designed for a hands-on builder who is excited to create clarity, structure, and momentum where programs are still early or evolving. We are looking for a strategic and data-driven leader with deep business acumen who designs people programs grounded in evidence, clear outcomes, and best-practice HR methodologies.

Today, our efforts across onboarding, performance management, learning and development, manager effectiveness, leadership development, and culture exist, but they are uneven and not yet operating as an integrated system. This role exists to change that. You will design, build, and scale the core programs that shape how people perform, grow, and stay at AlphaSense, while being thoughtful about what is truly needed at our stage and what can come later.

This role is an opportunity for a senior leader who enjoys building from first principles, working closely with business leaders, and delivering practical programs that managers actually use.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and owning AlphaSense’s core people programs across performance, development, onboarding, and learning.

A core part of this role is ensuring that people programs are measurable, consistent, and tied to real outcomes. You will design and run performance and talent processes that support a high-performance culture by emphasizing clear expectations, continuous feedback, and fair, objective evaluation. You will analyze performance and talent data to identify trends, surface inconsistencies, and recommend enhancements that improve manager effectiveness, engagement, productivity, and retention. You will also partner closely with People Technology to evolve our systems and workflows, particularly in Workday, to streamline performance cycles, improve the manager and employee experience, and enable stronger reporting and insights for senior leaders.

You will also strengthen onboarding and early employee experience, ensuring new hires are set up for success quickly and consistently. As part of this work, you will develop targeted programs for critical talent and retention, partnering with People Business Partners and business leaders to identify key roles, high-impact populations, and leadership segments where development and retention matter most.

This role requires a strong learning and design orientation. You will create content, curricula, and experiences largely in-house, drawing on facilitation, learning design, and practical enablement rather than relying heavily on external vendors. You will think carefully about where technology, automation, or emerging AI capabilities could enhance scale and effectiveness over time, without overengineering or overselling these approaches.

Throughout all of this, you will operate as a close partner to People Business Partners, People Operations, and senior leaders. You will balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, piloting programs, learning from feedback, and iterating quickly in a resource-conscious environment.

What Success Looks Like

Over time, success in this role looks like managers having clearer expectations and better tools to lead, performance cycles that are simpler and more meaningful, and leaders who feel better equipped to develop and retain their teams. AlphaSense will have a credible foundation for leadership development, critical talent retention, and performance management that can scale with the business.

Who You Are

You bring 10+ years of experience in talent management, learning and development, organizational development, or closely related people roles, with demonstrated success running large-scale, complex HR programs such as annual performance cycles, talent reviews, or leadership development initiatives. You are a strategic thinker with strong business judgment who uses data to diagnose problems, guide decisions, and measure impact. You are comfortable working in systems like Workday to extract insights, identify patterns, and present clear, data-driven recommendations to senior leaders. You are comfortable designing learning experiences, creating content, and facilitating sessions yourself when needed.

You thrive in fast-paced, high-growth environments and are energized by building from scratch rather than inheriting mature systems. You are a systems thinker who understands how performance, development, onboarding, and retention fit together across the employee lifecycle. You bring strong judgment, clear communication, and the ability to influence leaders without relying on heavy processes or large budgets.

You will stay curious about emerging tools and technologies—including analytics, automation, and AI—and thoughtfully evaluate where they can improve insight, scale, or program effectiveness over time.

Why Join

This is a rare opportunity to define and build the core people programs for a company entering its next stage of scale. You will have real ownership, meaningful impact, and the chance to shape how performance, leadership, and development work at AlphaSense for years to come

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
