About Team:

Leyden comprises a small team of designers and developers, working closely together to create and maintain an integrated system of UX and code components, used by 50 teams across Elsevier to produce on-brand, performant, accessible user interfaces for their products, helping hundreds of thousands of STEM professionals worldwide.

About Role: 

 

This position performs moderately difficult research, design, software development, and support assignments within the Leyden Design System - https://leyden.elsevier.com . The position should have the ability to work on individual pieces of work and solve problems, including the design of the program flow of individual pieces of code, effective coding, and automated testing.

Key Skills:    

  • Proven years of experience in front-end software development.

  • Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS/SASS.

  • Experience with React.

  • Familiarity with tools like NPM, Webpack/Vite, GitHub Actions, and code quality tools.

  • Understanding of testing practices (unit, automated, cross-browser).

  • Experience building accessible web interfaces (WCAG standards).

  • Comfortable working in Agile, Kanban, or similar environments.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

       Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with additional front-end libraries or component systems.

  • Familiarity with tools like Jira or similar project management platforms.

  • Background in mentoring or supporting other developers.

Responsibilities:     

  • Collaborating with engineers, designers, and stakeholders to define and implement front-end solutions.

  • Developing and maintaining accessible, responsive, and performant web applications.

  • Writing clean, maintainable code and participating in code reviews.

  • Contributing to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.

  • Supporting and mentoring team members, fostering a culture of learning and inclusion.

  • Helping manage and prioritise the development backlog.

  • Staying current with emerging technologies and best practices.
