Manage Commons' social media presence by developing strategies and content for platforms like Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and more. Engage with the community, track performance, and ensure brand consistency while collaborating closely with the marketing team.

Commons is an award-winning app that helps people make sustainable spending choices. With the app, consumers discover climate-friendly brands and earn rewards on eligible purchases. Commons is backed by Sequoia Capital, Jay-Z, and the founders of Headspace, Fitbit, and Nest, and has been selected as a TIME100 Most Influential Company of the Year, Apple App of the Day, and a Fortune Impact 20 company.

About the Role

Commons is hiring a Social Media Manager to run our social presence - strategy, content, community, and performance - across every key social channel. This isn't a "post scheduler". We're looking for someone who thinks in narratives, moves fast, and genuinely cares about how our finances impact the future of life on Earth. You will cultivate the Commons brand and audience – and convert them into quality users for Commons’ sustainable fintech app.

You'll be the voice of Commons online, working closely with the CMO and marketing team to turn our mission into content people actually want to engage with.
What You'll Own

Instagram (primary channel, highest priority) Full ownership of feed, Stories, and Reels. You set the aesthetic direction, write the captions, build out content, and grow the audience that is aligned with the core company value. You know how to balance polished brand content with lo-fi moments that actually convert.

YouTube (Shorts and long-form) Develop and run a content strategy across both formats. Shorts to drive discovery, long-form to build authority around sustainability, financial health, conscious spending, and company accountability. You think in series, not one-offs. On camera or behind it, either works.

TikTok Create native, platform-first content. You understand the algorithm well enough to not be enslaved by it. Trending audio, original concepts, brand ratings breakdowns, founder moments: you pitch it and you make it.

LinkedIn Support thought leadership content for the company page. You know how to write a LinkedIn post that doesn't sound like a LinkedIn post.

Threads Build our Threads presence with a voice that's conversational, sharp, and has a point of view. Early mover advantage is real here, own it.

Reddit Manage community participation and brand presence in relevant sustainability and personal finance subreddits. Understand the culture well enough to not get ratio'd.
Responsibilities

  • Build and manage monthly content calendars across all channels

  • Create original content: writing, short-form video, graphics

  • Handle day-to-day community engagement: comments, DMs, mentions

  • Track performance weekly and actually use the data to adjust strategy

  • Stay ahead of platform changes, trends, and cultural moments in sustainability and fintech

  • Partner with the CMO on brand partnerships, campaigns, and social extensions of PR moments

  • Find and manage relationships with creators and collaborators

  • Keep Commons' brand voice consistent and sharp across every channel

You're a Fit If You...
  • Have 3-5+ years running social for a consumer brand or startup

  • Have a portfolio of content you personally created, not just approved

  • Love being on camera and not scared to be the face of the brand

  • Are genuinely into sustainability. You'll be talking about it constantly. It should feel natural.

  • Can write well across multiple tones and platforms

  • Are comfortable with ambiguity and can create structure where there isn't any

  • Have strong opinions about what good content looks like and can back them up

  • Know when something isn't working and move on fast

Nice to Have
  • Background in fintech, sustainability, and/or mission-driven consumer brands

  • Comfortable in Figma or Canva for creating and adapting visual assets

  • Video editing chops (CapCut, Premiere, DaVinci)

  • Familiarity with Sprout Social, Planoly, Later, or similar tools

  • Experience working with influencers or creator programs

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary + equity

  • Fully remote with flexible hours or hybrid if you live in the San Francisco Bay area

  • A mission you can talk about without the eye roll

  • Direct access to leadership and real ownership over your work

  • Health, dental, vision

  • Unlimited PTO

Think you might have what it takes, but not sure you meet every requirement? Research shows that women and marginalized folks tend to only apply when they check every box. If you're passionate about what we're building, please apply. You might be just who we’re looking for.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
