The Opportunity

As a Senior Technical Writer, you will play a pivotal role in crafting clear and targeted written communications with a focus on enhancing usability for our clients. Your innovative and proactive approach will be key in producing technical documents that not only meet high standards but also guide our teams in their own writing endeavors. Your responsibilities include providing clear guidance for written communication, utilising quality visual imagery, and ensuring that technical documents are concise and user-friendly. With a forward-thinking mindset, you'll contribute to ongoing content development, continuously striving for improvements in product documentation standards to meet client needs effectively.

The Specifics

  • Produce clear written communications with quality visual images, demonstrating excellence in both content and communication with internal teams.
  • Share knowledge proactively within your immediate team and across the Product Development organisation, acting as a bridge between technical teams and end-users for effective communication.
  • Apply knowledge of established content authoring best practice to achieve excellence in the production of technical documents.
  • Innovate and proactively contribute to continuous improvement in content development for Gentrack’s products, and for improved methodologies.
  • Focus on the audience in all aspects of content design, ensuring a logical layout, accuracy, completeness, and visual effectiveness.
  • Build and share a high level of product knowledge across the business to achieve excellence in content development.

What we're looking for (you don’t need to be a guru at all, we’re looking forward to coaching and collaborating with you):

  • Senior level expertise in technical writing best practice ideally with 4+ years as a Technical Writer or in a related role.
  • Experience with all documentation tasks in a business producing and implementing enterprise-level software products.
  • Experience using help authoring tools and other information management systems such as Confluence.
  • Ability to evaluate needs and agree an effective content development approach.
  • Confidence to engage with content owners across all business roles to acquire source material for documentation.
  • Comfortable and confident to work in the open, sharing your work product at all stages of drafting and refinement.
  • Professional credibility to review the quality of work produced by other content developers, with an understanding of the implications of publishing content and managing associated risks.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in practices leading to effectiveness, efficiency and quality for content development.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in growing the capabilities of other Technical Writers through proactively sharing your practice and mentorship.
  • Positive and can-do attitude. Applying sound judgment, and determination to achieve with a sense of urgency when that’s required.
  • Commitment to strive for a high professional standard in your work, reinforcing Gentrack’s brand and leadership position in the industry.
  • Effective relationship management, interpersonal skills, and an open-minded consultative approach.
  • Ability to give and receive positive and constructive feedback and creatively solve problems.
  • Knowledge or experience in the utility industry is a strong advantage.
