As a Shield Engineer on the Analytics Platform team, your responsibilities are:

  • Responding to support requests from other Atlassian team members regarding the Analytics platform and assisting them with any issues they encounter.
  • Work with the analytics platform developers (both in BLR and Sydney) to gain a deeper understanding of the system you are supporting.
  • Understand the pain points of customers and identify recurring patterns to advocate for features that address their needs.
  • Keep our documentation and processes up-to-date to prevent the same problem from happening again.


On your first day, we'll expect you to have:

  • Good understanding of AWS products such as S3, IAM and EC2.
  • Experience of working with Infra as a code tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience of working with CI/CD tools such as Git/Bitbucket.
  • Capability to write and troubleshoot SQL queries, particularly Data Definition Language (DDL) statements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and methodical approach for problem-solving and troubleshooting in an environment driven by SLA/metrics.
  • A strong desire to assist others with their technical issues, regardless of how minor or repetitive they may be.
  • Profound technical curiosity and the ability to thrive in ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to understand and work with Python and Java.


The following are not required, but definite bonuses:

  • Experience with software development in Python/Java
  • Knowledge of big data technologies (e.g. Spark, Databricks)
  • Knowledge of container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
