Recently acquired by STARLIMS, a global leader in laboratory informatics, we are now taking our next massive leap: turning Labstep into an AI-augmented platform that can seamlessly translate messy, unstructured bench notes and spreadsheets into clean structured database entries, auto-generate reports and summaries, and help scientists query or cross-reference all their data using natural language.

The Role
As our Senior Product Manager, you will lead the product strategy, vision, and roadmap for Labstep. Because our users are researchers handling highly complex data and laboratory workflows, a formal background in science is a must for this role. Your most exciting challenge will be leading our transition into an AI-augmented platform. You will discover, validate, and launch features that utilize cutting edge AI models drive real value for our customers.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Product Strategy & Vision: Developing and communicating a clear product vision and strategy for the ELN platform, ensuring it aligns with overall STARLIMS company goals.
- Roadmap & Prioritization: Defining, prioritizing, and managing the product roadmap based on deep market research, customer feedback, and business objectives.
- Deep User Discovery: Partnering closely with customers and stakeholders to gather insights, understand laboratory workflows, and validate product decisions.
- Leading the AI Frontier: Translating scientific workflows into actionable, cutting-edge product features—specifically focusing on the opportunities presented by AI.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborating with our Technical Lead to ensure timely and successful product launches, while aligning closely with marketing, customer success, and sales teams.
- Data-Driven Optimization: Monitoring product performance and leveraging data/analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement through iterative feedback cycles.
- External Advocacy: Representing the Labstep product vision externally, engaging with the scientific community at industry events, and building relationships with partners.
Who You Are
- Scientifically Grounded (Must-Have): You have a degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Bioinformatics) or have spent significant time building software for scientists. You have native familiarity with laboratory workflows and research processes.
- An Entrepreneurial PM: You have proven experience managing complex software products, with a strong understanding of SaaS business models and product lifecycle management.
- User-Centric Design Advocate: You believe scientific software should meet the same high design standards as premier consumer applications. You are a tireless advocate for the user, translating intricate workflows into elegant, friction-free experiences.
- AI-Curious & Pragmatic: You don't need to be a data scientist, but you understand what LLMs and modern search capabilities can do, and you know how to design a user experience around them.
- Data-Driven & Analytical: You possess a data-driven mindset with experience using analytics to inform product decisions and measure user satisfaction.
- Master Communicator: Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills. You can "speak engineer" with your tech lead and just as easily present the platform vision to enterprise stakeholders or external clients.
Bonus Points for:
- Prior experience specifically working on an ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook) or LIMS platform.
- Experience building advanced search, discovery, or data-visualization tools.
