Responsible for implementing the day-to-day procurement requirements to support an assigned set of critical and/or high value raw materials, parts, and/or services potentially linked to a manufacturing site or segment, category, and/or business within a time horizon focus of present day to 1 year. Responsibilities include soliciting and receiving quotes, negotiating terms, supplier selection and elimination, purchase order (PO) entry and maintenance, supplier performance management, cost optimization, and issue resolution. The procurement specialist role strives to achieve best value at lowest cost while considering quality, reliability of source, risk to the business, and urgency of need.Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Place purchase orders based on system generated MRP requirements and/or approved purchase requisitions, maintaining accuracy while expediting/deferring purchase orders (as required) in SAP
- Process daily quote requests (including those needed for outside processors) and resolve any blocked invoices related to assigned MRP codes
- Resolve price discrepancies on a day-to-day basis; optimize price/volume purchases
- Field all suppliers’ questions and concerns (related to specifications, etc.) and work internally to resolve
- Develop new supply sources where vendors are no longer completive and/or are underperforming.
- Negotiate highest quality and best value terms with suppliers, based on cost analysis and volume planning
- Serve as the liaison between GT and the supplier base in regard to required documentation
- Provide subject matter expertise, training and mentorship to Procurement Specialist(s) and develop standard work documents
- Provides short-term forecasts (<1 year) to key suppliers based on historical consumption pattern
- Facilitate any quality issues between the suppliers and GT, collaborating with the supplier quality engineers as needed to resolve supplier quality (F2) issues
- Achieve performance objectives for on-time delivery, purchase price variance, inventory turns, timely order processing, PO accuracy, vendor accuracy,
- Create necessary SAP reports to manage and optimize work
- Maintains accurate, optimized master data for key inputs such as planned delivery time, price, safety stock, etc.
- Implement business and sourcing category strategy elements.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certifications:
- Preference given to candidates with BS Degree (Supply Chain, Logistics and/or related field), or equivalent years’ experience; HS Diploma required
- CPSM, APICS, Supply Chain certification preferred
Skills and Experience
- 8 years previous purchasing/procurement experience (or 5 years with BS degree)
- Demonstrated ability to manage supplier performance, coupled with the experience selecting, negotiating and implementing new vendors/agreements accordingly
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment required
- Proven interpersonal skills, along with the ability to effectively communicate required
- Preference given to candidates who have previous SAP experience (or similar ERP/MRP systems)
- Ability to make decisions in a timely fashion, coupled with the ability to investigate and weigh alternatives while also understanding root cause analysis/risk mitigation strategies required.
