🚀 Why this role matters

ZOE is expanding into continental Europe, and Germany is our flagship market.

We are the world’s leading gut health science company, best known for our science-backed app, the world’s #1 nutrition podcast, and breakthrough publications in The Lancet and Nature.

We already see strong organic brand search and consumer demand across Germany. Now, we need a senior, hands-on operator on the ground to turn that momentum into a live, market-leading presence.

This isn't a maintenance role, nor is it about delegating to agencies from a distance. You will be ZOE’s most senior marketing and communications lead in-market, standing up our brand narrative, tier-1 media presence, and growth strategy from a blank page.

🎯 About the role

As our Germany Lead, you will hold total ownership over our market entry (~75% focus) whilst lending senior capacity to major cross-market science and brand moments (~25% focus).

  • You are a senior individual contributor (IC) with 5–10 years’ experience. "Manager" reflects your seniority and strategic autonomy, not managing direct reports. You build, execute, and own.

  • You own local PR, media relations, and brand strategy, whilst acting as the in-market lead who briefs and collaborates with central UK/US performance, creative, and lifecycle marketing teams.

  • You will report directly to the GM of International Growth, with the the Head of Global Comms as your key PR/Comms partner.

👥 The team

You’ll be joining a supportive, senior global team spanning PR, Corporate Communications, Brand, Performance, Science, and Product. Whilst you will operate independently on the ground in Germany, you'll be backed by a world-class engine in the UK and US providing a constant pipeline of clinical research, spokesperson availability, and proven playbooks to adapt for your market.

🛠️ What you will do

1. Own the Germany market entry (~75%)

  • Growth Strategy & Briefing: Act as the in-market strategist. Partner with Finance and brief central Lifecycle and Performance teams to test local commercial levers (pricing, email programmes, local campaigns).

  • PR & Media Office: Build relationships with Tier-1 German consumer, health, trade, and national journalists. Pitch stories, secure coverage, and run product gifting and media events.

  • Brand Localisation: Adapt ZOE’s science-led story for the German consumer mindset—creating a bespoke market-entry strategy rather than translating UK copy.

  • Agency & Ambassador Management: Select, brief, and manage local PR freelancers, agencies, and brand ambassadors as required.

2. Company-Wide & Cross-Market Support (~25%)

  • Support major cross-market science publications, product launches, and reactive press office work.

  • Draft high-impact briefing documents, opinion pieces, press releases, and Q&As in both German and English.

  • Share EU market insights and playbooks in both directions across the organisation.

📋 Who you are
  • Language Precision: Native or certified C2 German (capable of localising complex scientific and health concepts with total precision) AND fluent C1/C2 English (our primary internal working language).

  • Proven Track Record: 5–10 years’ experience launching or scaling a consumer brand in Germany (ideally in health, wellness, nutrition, science, or consumer tech).

  • Tier-1 Media Network: Strong existing relationships with German journalists and a proven track record of landing major press coverage.

  • Commercially Minded: You measure success by business outcomes (brand search, web traffic, sign-ups, agency efficiency), not just impressions or AVE.

  • A True "Doer": High autonomy, comfortable operating without a local team, and excited to build a market presence from scratch.

The Nice-to-Haves

  • Basic familiarity with German health marketing regulations (HWG / EU Health Claims) and consumer data privacy expectations (DSGVO).

  • Additional European languages (Spanish, French, Italian, or Nordic languages).

  • Previous experience navigating a matrix remote organisation across time zones (UK/US).

🎯 What Success Looks Like
  • By Month 3: A signed-off German market-entry strategy, an active network of Tier-1 German press contacts, and scoped commercial growth tests.

  • By Month 6: Live PR and marketing campaigns in Germany, early Tier-1 media placements, measurable brand search growth, and a draft playbook for further expansion.

  • By Month 12: A self-sustaining, repeatable German marketing playbook driving revenue and awareness, reviewed at C-suite level.

💼 What we offer
  • Competitive Base salary & Equity

  • Remote-First Flexibility (work from home anywhere in Germany or UK)

  • Comprehensive Benefits Package

  • Direct Impact on expanding world-class health science into Europe

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
