Job Description
Job Summary:
Senior Logistics Specialist will be responsible for the end-to-end management of all export operations for shipments to the Middle East and Africa and other international destinations. This role requires an understanding of EU export regulations, customs procedures, and experience with air and ocean freight. The ideal candidate will possess a meticulous attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, time-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Export Documentation & Declaration:
Prepare and process all necessary export documentation with 100% accuracy, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and shipper's letters of instruction.
Independently handle export declarations through Germany's ATLAS (Automatisiertes Tarif- und Lokales Zoll-Abwicklungs-System), ensuring full compliance with German and EU customs laws.
Processing and administration of export licenses, particularly for dual-use items, ensuring adherence to regulations.
Logistics & Transportation Management:
Plan, coordinate, and execute the shipment via air and ocean freight, selecting the most appropriate carriers and routes.
Negotiate freight rates with carriers and freight forwarders to ensure cost-effectiveness.
Oversee the physical handling of cargo, including specialized packing, crating, lashing, and securing to meet both carrier and destination country requirements.
Incoterms & Trade Compliance:
Provide expert guidance on and ensure the correct application of Incoterms® 2020 rules (e.g., FCA, DAP, DDP) to define responsibilities for costs, risks, and customs clearance between seller and buyer.
Navigate the complexities of customs clearance in various countries, addressing potential challenges with tariffs, duties, and import regulations.
Specialized Knowledge & Regulations:
Demonstrate a thorough understanding and practical application of IATA (International Air Transport Association) regulations..
Possess comprehensive knowledge of DG (Dangerous Goods) regulations for both air (IATA DGR) and ocean (IMDG Code) transport.
Manage the classification of goods according to the Harmonized System (HS) to ensure correct tariff and duty calculations.
Client & Stakeholder Communication:
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates on shipment status and proactively addressing any issues.
Liaise effectively with internal departments (sales, project management, and finance), as well as external partners (freight forwarders, customs brokers, transport companies, and government agencies).
Basic Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in International Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is highly preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 1 years of hands-on experience in an export role, with a proven track record of managing shipments to international destinations.
Demonstrable experience in handling cargo for both air and ocean freight is essential.
Direct, hands-on experience with filing export declarations is mandatory.
Specific Required Knowledge:
Export Declarations: In-depth knowledge of EU customs export procedures, including the specific documentation and data requirements for declaring goods to international destinations.
Heavy Weight Air & Ocean Freight:
Understanding the unique challenges of transporting heavy cargo, including load planning, special equipment requirements (e.g., flat racks, open-top containers, heavy-lift aircraft), and the coordination of specialized transport and handling.
Knowledge of proper packing, lashing, and securing techniques for heavy and oversized items to ensure safe transit.
Incoterms: Understanding of all Incoterms, with the ability to advise on the most suitable terms for complex, high-value shipments and to manage the associated risks and responsibilities.
Dual-Use Items: Proven experience in identifying and managing the export of dual-use goods, and ensuring full compliance with German and EU export control regulations.
Customs & Tariffs: Strong knowledge of customs valuation, tariff classification (HS codes), and the application of duties and taxes. Experience in overcoming customs clearance hurdles in these regions is a significant advantage.
IATA & DG Regulations:
A valid IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) certification is highly desirable.
Comprehensive understanding of IATA regulations for air cargo, including weight and balance limitations and special handling procedures for oversized shipments.
Working knowledge of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code for ocean freight.
Skills:
Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English (written and spoken) being essential. Knowledge of German would be an asset.
Proficient in MS Office Suite and experience with ERP/logistics software.
