More about our mission and what we offer.

Job Description

At Wise our mission is Money Without Borders – instant, convenient, transparent and eventually free.

As we continue to grow and scale, we’re on the hunt for an experienced Finance professional to join our Finance Risk and Controls team. Your work will be instrumental in strengthening our internal control environment, monitoring and reporting, and helping the business achieve its mission.

This role provides an excellent platform for someone looking to step into the finance function of a Fintech and deep dive into the inner workings of a Company that has taken the financial services industry by storm.

Your Mission:

  • Lead the project to build end to end views of our control environment to illustrate key risks, controls and processes that impact group financial statements in a SOX environment.

  • Understand and guide the teams on implementation of the requirements as per the US SOX for both business processes and ITGCs.

  • Support in building a testing programme to independently assess controls to identify gaps and implement remediation plans.

  • Effectively support and challenge the group finance teams on their journey to evolve and mature our risk and control environment.

  • Partner with both finance and non-finance teams as needed to address risks and controls related to financial reporting.

  • Ensure all control remediation, internal and external audit actions are completed on time and actions are adequate to mitigate the inherent risks.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including finance teams, Risk and Internal Audit, to establish standards, policies, and develop KRIs for measuring and monitoring risks on a continuous basis.

The role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Own your own path to success – You’ll have a high level of autonomy and responsibility.

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of Wise’s business - Get to know many teams across finance and the business as you partner with them to help them implement a risk and controls culture

  • Grow with the role – You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills and grow your own team as the business and finance function grows in complexity.

  • Stepping stone - This role provides an excellent platform for someone looking to step into the finance function of a fast growing Fintech

A bit about you:

  • Theory - You have a professional finance qualification such as the ACA or equivalent (CPA / ACCA / CIA / CISA) with proven post qualification experience. Detailed knowledge of US GAAP reporting, general accounting concepts and internal controls is a must. Experience in a SOX environment is highly desirable and knowledge of ITGCs is a bonus.

  • Practice - You have demonstrable experience leading and managing internal controls / audit teams on multiple assignments preferably within Financial services.

  • Love getting things done - You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and take responsibility to do whatever needs doing to solve problems.

  • Commercial acumen - You understand the value of taking a balanced approach to risk and controls to support the growth of the business

  • Collaborative - You work well in a multinational team environment, and know how to have an impact through others.

  • Development - You are keen to learn and develop your knowledge of how a FinTech and fast growing scale-up operates.

Our finance team is spread across the globe, so there are a lot of video calls and some travel involved (potentially once a quarter).

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
