Build and operate AWS and Kubernetes production platforms, develop Terraform and OpenTofu infrastructure patterns, automate with Ansible, and improve CI/CD, observability, security, governance, and developer self-service. The role investigates complex platform issues, supports AI technology adoption, strengthens operational reliability, mentors engineers, and influences engineering standards across teams.
The summary above was generated by AI

At Verisk, we combine data, analytics, and technology to help businesses understand risk, make better decisions, and operate with greater confidence.

Within Verisk Specialty Business Solutions (VSBS), we provide technology and data solutions that support the global specialty insurance market. Our platforms sit at the heart of complex, business-critical workflows, giving our engineering teams the opportunity to solve meaningful technical challenges at scale.

We’re looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to help shape how our production platforms are built, automated, secured, and operated.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role with genuine technical ownership. You’ll work across AWS, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, automation, and observability, building capabilities that improve reliability while making it easier for our engineering teams to deliver software effectively.

Just as importantly, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how we work. From reusable infrastructure patterns and developer self-service to engineering standards and the responsible adoption of AI technologies, your work will have an impact beyond a single platform or project.

Why join Verisk Specialty Business Solutions

This is an opportunity to work in an established global organization while still having meaningful influence over how technology is designed and delivered.

At VSBS, your work will support technology used within the specialty insurance market, where reliability, security, and long-term scalability genuinely matter. You’ll be solving engineering challenges that have a clear business purpose rather than working on infrastructure in isolation.

You’ll also have the scope expected of a genuinely senior engineering position: ownership of important production environments, influence over engineering standards, exposure to modern cloud and AI technologies, and the opportunity to make improvements that benefit multiple engineering teams.

For someone who enjoys being hands-on but also wants to shape how DevOps and platform engineering evolve, this role offers the chance to build things that last and see the impact of your work over time.

Responsibilities

•  Design, build, and support AWS cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes platforms running in production.

•  Build and maintain reusable Infrastructure as Code patterns using Terraform and OpenTofu.

•  Develop automation using Ansible to reduce manual effort and improve consistency across environments.

•  Improve and standardize CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, quality controls, and delivery practices.

•  Improve the developer experience through automation, self-service capabilities, clear documentation, and platform tooling.

•  Help define and promote engineering standards across infrastructure, Kubernetes, security, governance, and software delivery.

•  Support the responsible adoption of AI technologies, including integrations, governance, observability, and cost management.

•  Strengthen monitoring, alerting, observability, and operational visibility across business-critical platforms.

•  Investigate and resolve complex infrastructure, deployment, configuration, and application issues.

•  Provide advanced technical support for platform and production challenges.

•  Mentor other engineers, share technical knowledge, and contribute to engineering decisions across teams.

Qualifications

You’ll bring strong technical depth together with a practical approach to problem-solving. You’re comfortable taking ownership of production environments, investigating issues across infrastructure and application layers, and finding opportunities to automate rather than repeatedly solve the same problem manually.

You’ll ideally have:

•  5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or a similar role.

•  Strong hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Ansible.

•  Experience supporting and improving business-critical production environments.

•  Strong knowledge of CI/CD principles and engineering automation, ideally including Azure DevOps pipelines.

•  Experience improving developer productivity through platform tooling, reusable engineering patterns, and automation.

•  Knowledge of infrastructure standards, cloud security controls, governance, and operational practices.

•  Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across infrastructure, applications, deployments, and configuration.

•  The ability to understand and navigate application code when investigating platform-related issues.

•  An automation-first approach and a genuine interest in continually improving how engineering teams build, deploy, and operate software.

Nice to have

Experience in any of the following would be valuable, but you don’t need to have everything on the list:

•  Amazon EKS.

•  Azure DevOps, including pipelines, permissions, and integrations.

•  AI platforms, LLM gateways, AI governance, FinOps, or AI observability.

•  Technical mentoring, coaching, or engineering leadership.

•  Observability and incident management tooling such as Dynatrace and PagerDuty.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
