Job Description

Are you a researcher passionate about innovating the future of play?

This is an opportunity to use deep human insights, qualitative and quantitative research, and strategic thinking to drive the development the LEGO Group’s new play experiences.

Core Responsibilities

  • Keep kids at the heart of strategy and design – Embed the voice of the consumer, their needs, attitudes, behaviors, perceptions, preferences, WTP, etc. into product and marketing strategy to ensure Desirability of our new play experiences.

  • Define a Learning Agenda to support the end-to-end innovation process – Work closely with Design, Marketing, Product owner, etc. to identify project priorities, knowledge gaps, and research needs. From early opportunity identification and sizing, to concept development and testing, to go-to-market strategy and piloting, build a Learning Agenda that supports the development of our new play experiences.

  • Deliver both qualitative and quantitative research – We do much of our research in-house so we’re looking for a well-rounded, mixed-method researcher. Ability to moderate co-creation sessions with kids one day, then script and analyze a survey the next. Design, manage, facilitate and analyze all agile research in-house.

Play your part in our team succeeding

Creative Play Lab exists to build radically new, big, fun LEGO experiences that delight and inspire the builders of tomorrow.

As part of a cross-functional development team, this role will support bringing new play concepts to market with the necessary research and insights – from proposition development and iteration to go-to-market strategy and piloting. This requires a well-seasoned researcher with the full spectrum of research tools under their belt.

Do you have what it takes?

Experience and track record are more relevant than specific education. We would love to meet applicants from a diverse set of backgrounds.

  • Several years of experience working in commercial research, whether within an agency or in-house for a brand. Working with physical products, kids and in early innovation is a real plus!

  • Qualitative research experience – designing and moderating online and in-person interviews, focus groups, co-creation sessions, at-home ethnographies, etc. Experience conducting research with kids is a real plus!

  • Quantitative research experience – scripting and analyzing surveys, opportunity sizing, pricing strategy, audience segmentation, concept validation, call to action testing, etc.; comfort with numbers and data literacy.

  • Analytical and synthesis skills – mining insights from various data sources, as trends, customer insight, app data, sales data, desk research, industry reports, NPS reports, etc.

  • Stakeholder management and communication skills (proficiency in English)– writing and presenting simple and clear yet compelling insight narratives that bring the user to life and enable direct action and decision making.

  • Project management – defining the Learning Agenda for your development team, to derisk the proposition you’re bringing to market.

  • People management – informally mentor a junior researcher.

As a person, we expect you to have…

  • A curiosity about people – their perceptions, attitudes, behaviors and emotions.

  • Strong social, collaboration and communication skills. Ability to work independently and identify critical and highest impact tasks.

  • Self-confidence and assertiveness, with a natural ability to take the lead and solve problems.

  • Tendency to think critically, challenge the brief and voice your opinion.

  • Creative approach, always asking “What if…?” and thinking up new ways to do things.

  • Comfort with uncertainty and change – innovation is the unknown!

  • An interest in toys, games and play experiences.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
