About the Role

As a Senior Data Insurance Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining robust, scalable data solutions that power analytics, reporting, and decision-making across the insurance value chain. You will work closely with data analysts, actuaries, underwriters, and business stakeholders to design and deliver data pipelines, models, and architectures that ensure accuracy, performance, and accessibility of insurance data.

In this role, you will design and implement data ingestion, transformation, and storage frameworks that meet enterprise-grade standards for quality, security, and compliance. You will play a key role in defining data architecture patterns, normalisation and transformation logic, and supporting the development of medallion architectures and consumption-ready data models.

As a senior member of the team, you will also help drive engineering best practices, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with the Product Owner and Lead Data Engineer to shape the technical roadmap. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives on solving complex data challenges and wants to make a tangible impact on how data is leveraged to drive efficiency, risk management, and growth in the insurance industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate daily with Data Analysts and the Product Owner to understand business and analytical requirements.
  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines to ingest and process data from multiple source systems.
  • Configure data transformation and normalization logic to ensure consistency, accuracy, and readiness for downstream use.
  • Define and configure data models within the medallion architecture, enabling robust consumption layers for analytics and reporting.
  • Configure, package, and deploy data platform components to production environments, ensuring reliability and scalability.
  • Work with the Product Owner and Data Analyst to co-define and prioritize the engineering backlog in line with business priorities.
  • Implement and manage data cataloging and lineage processes to support governance, discoverability, and compliance.
  • Leverage core data platform technologies including Azure, Databricks, Python/Notebooks, Azure DevOps, Unity Catalog, and MSSQL.
  • Operate within a matrix-managed reinsurance environment, collaborating with remote and onsite teams, and adhering to strict service, compliance, and security standards.
  • Support multiple business units by consuming Databricks-as-a-Service (BDAP) to deliver high-quality, enterprise-grade data solutions.
  • Apply prior knowledge and experience in working with the Lloyds syndicate specialty insurance data set to accelerate data migrations.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
